This is getting some traction on twitter right now...lots.

Very interesting read - at this point, I'm not sure what to believe. Did the South Bend Tribune do any research?

The investigation ordered by Notre Dame was limited to the electronic search, Brown said. Investigators did not interview Te’o or his family, nor did anyone attempt to contact Ronaiah Tuiasosopo or any of his relatives.

In response to questions, university officials said the investigators did not examine cell phone records, e-mails or other electronic communication to determine the length or extent of Te’o’s
communication over the past few years with the person claiming to be Lennay Kekua, nor did the university ask Te’o to take a lie detector test.

For some reason, I think even being a Private University, prevents you from having to release public records requests. I mean, they used school money to investigate, seems like an easy request to get the data right?

Being private doesn't prevent, it enables.

I'm not saying "enable" trying to imply "complicit." It just draws a line between what can be accessed and what can not be accessed. It's not any different from USC not releasing the salary figures on how Pete Carroll was getting paid to be head coach. (There was speculation and rumor, but no contract to read like you'll find for UA, AU, UGA, etc.)

A private school, private University, private club, private golf course...you name it. About the only thing that they can avoid releasing information in is a criminal investigation. In this situation, they can keep this as closed as they choose.

From the snippet, it sounds more like Te'o came in and said "have you guys ever seen that show Catfish? Well, it happened to me." The University responded "OK! We believe you Manti. We'll take it from here. We will investigate this and find out who is behind this. Did any of you write down what he said? We can use that!"

I'm sure Notre Dame and Te'o both would like for this just to go away and never have to deal with it ever again. But, that's not going to happen.

I haven't followed this story all that close after the first few days of it, so if some of this has been discussed let me know. To me, there's no question whether or not Te'o lied...it's just to what extent, and I think he has already admitted to not coming clean immediately, but it could go deeper than that. This can be checked fairly easy, and pretty quick.

I'd like to know if he REALLY sent flowers to a funeral that didn't exist, as he said he did. This would be fair easy and take just a few phone calls are to the florists in the area where the supposed funeral was taking place...and it wouldn't surprise me if some reporters out there have already done just that. Also, I wouldn't mind someone looking at his phone records to see if he actually was speaking to this fake person as much as he claims he was.

Also, I'd really like to hear Tuiasusopo (spelling?) speak. I still think that Te'o found out long before he says he did, and that he did play it up for a while...hell, his teammate came out and said that much of their football team knew about it.

If we all were supposed to believe that Cam didn't really know what was going on then why shouldn't we be "All IN' on Notre Dame and Te'o's story as well?
