1. Chad Kelly passed for 421 yards against Alabama on Saturday, the third most passing yards anyone has had against a Nick Saban team at UA. Nick Marshall had 456 in 2014 and Johnny Manziel had 464 in 2013. Alabama is 3-0 in those games. I didn't look closely enough to be sure, but I'm pretty sure Deshaun Watson's CFB championship game is the 4th most, and the only other 400+ yard passing game against Nick Saban's Alabama. That would make Alabama 4-0 under Saban against 400-yard passers.

2. There are bound to be jitters and mistakes at a first road game, but penalties were a problem again. Alabama had 9 for 75 yards and has 21 for 159 in the last two games combined. We heard practice was better this week going into Oxford. Curious to hear what the takeaway is from this one.

3. Last year's team had 10 non-offensive touchdowns on the season after Alabama had just one in all of 2014. This year's team already has five after posting three yesterday, including at least one in all three games. There are 9 FBS teams that have scored five or fewer TDs this year. Their 21 points yesterday equaled or surpassed 41 FBS teams that played this week, including Florida State, Iowa, USC, Mississippi State… and Auburn.

4. Eddie Jackson has gotten the ball 14 times in his career (9 interception, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 punt returns) and has 449 yards and 5 total touchdowns. In the last two seasons, since he became a starter, he has 7 interceptions for 285 yards and 3 TDs, plus two punt returns for 95 yards and a touchdown. He’s averaging 32.1 yards per touch and a touchdown more than a third of the time he gets his hands on the ball.

5. Damien Harris is fifth in the SEC with 327 rushing yards, and that’s come on just 35 carries (the players ahead of him have 67, 71, 71 and 43). His 9.08-yard average leads the SEC and is 11th nationally among all players with at least a dozen carries so far this season. He is also tied for the national lead with three carries of 40+ yards through just three games.

6. You've probably heard this by now but it's worth repeating: Alabama tied the school record for largest comeback yesterday. Down 21 points (24-3) tied a 21-point deficit to Ole Miss in 1989, where Alabama came back to win 62-27 over the Rebels. After falling behind 24-3, Alabama went on a 24-0 run (part of a larger 45-6 run) to take its 48-30 lead before holding on to win 48-43.

Looking ahead, Kent State is not a good football team. It is 1-2 and has a loss at home to FCS North Carolina A&T. They beat FCS Monmouth 27-7 yesterday but only had 343 yards.

Couple of things:

• Chad Kelly is the best quarterback Alabama will face through the SEC championship game at least. Maybe the best they'll play all season. 421 yards doesn't happen in a vacuum. You have to give him credit and his teammates credit.
• Some of what happened late in the game can probably be attributed to the conditions and the attrition. When Minkah went out, then the nickel package was Marlon Humphrey, Eddie Jackson, Ronnie Harrison, Anthony Averett and Shyheim Carter. Even before he went out, safe to say some guys out there were having issues with the heat and humidity.
• Marlon got beat a couple of times yesterday. Maybe that's a concern. Maybe it's just bound to happen with the law of averages. Worth keeping an eye on.
• Anthony Averett probably isn't who you would like to have as a starting CB, but it sure doesn't look like any of the freshmen are ready to replace him.

The biggest thing is the first point. Chad Kelly is a really good player. So is Evan Engram. Good football players are going to make plays. The secondary got beat up more than I would have thought but I don't think it's time to push the panic button there.

That may be true but Joshua Dobbs, Trevor Knight, Austin Allen...I mean they may not be big names but I wouldn't count them out. Dobbs has some pretty good RB's to back him up, A&M is well A&M so who knows but Knight beat Bama once, and Allen with Arkansas looked impressive against TCU. LSU and Miss State was an interesting game but I can't really tell how good either team is. Too early to tell on Auburn because Malzahn is playing QB roulette.

As far as a potential SECCG opponent if we make it...Georgia has a QB but no running game and now UF is without DelRio...Should be an interesting season.

A&M sitting at 14th in total offense,530.7 ypg. Knight has 830 in the air with 2 picks 5 TDs. 122.0 passing efficiency.
Arky sitting at 81st in total offense, 389 ypg. Allen has 655 in the air with 2 picks 7 TDs. 160.9 passing efficiency.

OM offense 53rd in total offense, 441 ypg. Kelly 953 in the air with 4 picks 10 TDs. 160.8 passing efficiency.

I would argue Carter played as effectively, if not more so, than Averett.

Def. had issues with cramps, I think both Eddie and Reuben left the game for extended periods because of it.
Hootie wasn't awful after Eddie left, but Ronnie Harrison had probably the worst game of his career. Rashaan was very good in place of Reuben and it really showed on one of Kelly's scrambles, his closing speed is ridiculous.

Yes he did and a play or two later Reuben cremated him too. Those two together on the inside would probably be the two fasted insider backers in the country. I know he's still learning the position but man if he can get it all down it would be huge for the defense.

Reuben had one of the best plays of the game where he smacked Kelly's lights out on the side line play a few yards short of the 1st down marker. I forget when in the game it happened, but go back and watch it. Reuben blitz's on the play and gets pickup and blocked. Kelly scrambles to his right and Reuben drops back and crosses the field at the 1st down yardage line full speed and meets Kelly just before he can get to that 1st down yard marker and hits him full force. I've seen a lot LB not have the awareness to stop their rush up inside and move backwards to cross the filed and meet the QB on the angle. Most try to fight through the block and chase the QB from behind. It was a KEY play in the game too.
