📝 Notable 'misses' and some perspective

Jamaree Salyer - big boy was all GA, and from Pace in ATL.

Zamir White - still LOTS of depth chart to climb at RB, but could have been the 2018 headliner RB.

Justyn Ross - I don't get it - not like Clemson has produced better than Julio and Amari - but whatever.

Cade Mays - best player from TN. Did he think of Leatherwood and Wills and want to play sooner?

Olaijah Griffin - I know we've pulled them from Cali, but USC has done well - why would he go east?

Tyson Campbell - Most said he wanted to play at a different place than Sartain - I'll take Sartain - good luck Tyson.

KJ Henry - Dabo is no slouch and Clemson has done well - closer to home.

Issac Taylor-Stuart - kid liked us for a long time. Again, USC is a storied program doing well - and Terry P or CC may have other perspective.

Brenton Cox - we put on the full court press, but hey - a GA boy, Kirby controlled the state well this year. Depth chart at DE has several players already.

Quay Walker - no class. I have posted what I think of this guy before. I know Saban wanted him, but I say let him go, along with his attitude.

Luke Ford - is this an example of Kirby's car salesman tactics that some have referenced? Liked us, liked UGA better for SOME reason, even if that reason is gone.

Kelvin Joseph - he considered us, but hey, he IS from Baton Rouge.

Penei Sewell - I guess Oregon IS closer than 'Bama? We went against another great recruiter, and we have some good young OTs.

Asa Martin - disappointing. Don't know if he grew up an Auburn fan? Certainly a better chance to be THE man with their poor RB corp.

JJ Peterson - again, disappointing. Another former 'Bama coach with a great relationship charms him to go to ucheat. Have fun sucking for 4 years, JJ - good luck. Could have been the next great one from LB U.

Brandon Kaho - Washington, really, Brandon? Maybe he thought there was too much OLB depth at 'Bama.

Nadab Joseph - grades? Sounded like we couldn't take the risk. Hasn't been able to enroll at UGA YET.

Coynis Miller - we needed DTs. Good luck being on an average team for 4 years - maybe an Auburn fan?

Jacob Copeland- heard he was willing to play O or D - sounded like a good attitude. Did NOT like what he pulled on signing day - maybe some character insight, maybe just immaturity. He stayed home to play for the gayturds. Good luck to him.

Bobby Brown - who knows? Sounded like he knew who the good guys were - but I guess pressure to stay home won out over wanting to be great - Jimbo may have given him hope that he can make A&M compete for championships.

Malik Langham- seriously Malik? Florida? I don't even understand, unless he just felt unworthy to compete?

The biggest mysteries to me are Langham, Ross, and Peterson. For whatever reason, the others - maybe staying home, or lack of coaching relationships, was important, and that's understandable. Saban and staff are usually amazing - and this year they simply weren't AMAZING - but there is NO need to panic or worry.

I am sure I left off some - but they all have their reasons. Except for whomever told our coaches they were coming, and then committed elsewhere, good luck to them. For those who lied to us - karma is a bitch, boys.

Roll Tide!!!!!

With all the freshmen that played at Alabama this year, I can see where high school kids saw themselves WAY behind on the depth chart for many years. Think about playing behind Tua, Najee, Devonta Smith, Jeudy, Allen, Leatherwood, McKinney, Moses, Ray, Robinson, Ruggs, Wills, Wright who all had substantial playing time in 2017. Plus, Alabama is still loaded with sophomores and juniors from previous top recruiting classes.

JJ Peterson - again, disappointing. Another former 'Bama coach with a great relationship charms him to go to ucheat. Have fun sucking for 4 years, JJ - good luck. Could have been the next great one from LB U.
I have a hard time understanding how a LB can turn down Bama (you will play in the NFL and make mad money if you get in the rotation at Bama) to play at a place where you know Bama is going to beat you sensless on a annual basis, and you will be the exception if you make it to the NFL. SMDH!
Bobby Brown - who knows? Sounded like he knew who the good guys were - but I guess pressure to stay home won out over wanting to be great - Jimbo may have given him hope that he can make A&M compete for championships.
Incredibly frustrating that he flat out lied to our coaches. I hope he also enjoys competing to get in the middle tier of the SECW. I've said it for a long time now, teams in the SECW need to worry about beating that cow college in order to even be able to compete for the SECW.

I look forward to both Harris RBs running right over Brown the same way we kept hitting Jarvis Jones in the SECCG a few years ago.

Asa Martin - disappointing. Don't know if he grew up an Auburn fan? Certainly a better chance to be THE man with their poor RB corp.

I think you hit it, @bradenob . He saw the depth chart and saw immediate playing time. He and Joiner will be a good tandem. They won't be the Barnell Williams/Ronnie Clark duo Wingnut had years ago; I doubt they'll be as good as Chubb/Michel, but they'll...do okay.

Exact;y - and I'm ok with it. I will take a class of 20 (OR LESS!!!) with players like Najee who WANT to compete with the best, and prove they CAN, than guys that want an easy shot at playing time, regardless of championships, or even WINNING!!!

I don't understand why Bama couldn't get more DL to sign with the holes up front. I can understand the receiver not coming when you have 3 freshmen that are looking like elite then playing time might not look so good at TitleTown. JMO but these kids are looking at playing time much more than what rings or hardware you have to show. I am dayum glad the LBer Walker did sign with Bama. His is pathetic at best. His parents shet the bed on their part.

Makes me think Malik Langham liked getting his ass kissed more than success of any kind. Good luck getting to theSEC championship, let alone a Natty

From Tider Insider on three of the misses:
Vernon Jackson wanted to play offense. He lacked confidence he could play at Alabama. Alabama needed other players. So you could call it a mutual parting. Bama was moving on weeks before his "flip."
Bobby Brown was a legit flip. He kept saying the right things, but the handwriting was on the wall -- you had to be uneasy about him. I do think the structure and discipline at Bama would have helped him. I questioned his work ethic/mental toughness. Lots of maturing to do.
I really believe Glenn Beal would have ended up a defensive end at Bama. He does not understand it now, but DE is his best position. I thought he would end up better than Bobby Brown long run.

100% correct on Jackson. He wound up waiting until Thursday to sign (TAMU). They have him listed as a RB.

The best perspective I can give to myself is that we just played the season with 4 consecutive #1 recruiting classes on the field. We are loaded and 3 deep with talent. As crazy as it sounds we still had Cowens, Benton, and Ben Davis in the stables at LB if we had to have them and we were pretty much playing everyone else. Is that not the craziest of depth?

That kind of consecutive #1 recruiting depth was a luxury that our 09, 11, and 12 championship teams didn't have. It's been a luxury that Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Georgia have never possessed. Just saying, we are fine with this recruiting class. We got some difference makers in this group and with so much talent coming back we are loaded. And the best part for me is the possibility of now sporting a great QB, that will always be the great equalizer when all else fails. From where I stand, things look great for Bama to continue to roll.

There will always be what's true and then a bunch of folks trying to talk you out of it. Below is one example of someone else's perception.
