Until something is done about MSU and their cowbells, I don't want to hear a word about Alabama (or other SEC teams) playing a few seconds of music (or even a rooster crow) while a team is in the huddle. Either enforce the artificial noisemaker rule(s) at all schools, or do away with the rule.

I know this would be virtually impossible to coordinate, but IF when we go to Miss State this year and if they do not enforce the 'no cowbell rule' then in 2010 when Miss State visits Tuscaloosa about 50,000 Alabama fans should bring those canned air horns to the stadium and every time Miss State comes to the line sound them off.

And DARE the game officials (or the SEC Office) do a damn thing about it.

Hell, I bet we take about 20,000 fans to Miss State THIS year, and if about half that group did this in THEIR stadium the point might be made even louder (pun intended).

Isnt there a rule in place as to when bands are supposed to play? (cant when the teams report to the line of scrimmage or something?)
If so wouldnt the PA be under the same restrictions?

I am pretty sure there is on the bands—not 100% sure thoug. (I doubt it's a gentleman's agreement between all the schools.) But, there's that "artificial noise" versus live music distinction.

Considering the bands are in reality representatives of the University, I can see different rules applying to them versus the fan base.

Hell, defensive lineman have rules in place for simulating snaps vocally...

True, but my point is if you are not going to enforce one, then don't do the other. Both are covered by rules (unless something has changed very recently).

The biggest issue that revolves around the cowbells and Starkville is there still hasn't been any game where you can point and say "they had an advantage."

Honestly, not sure Hell's bells did either. It just so happened it occured on 3rd down. Chances are, the crowd would have been just as loud.

I could swear I remember a game from a couple years back where the ref threw the flag and issued the warning to MSU fans, but he never followed up with another flag (and penalty). Then again, I could be remembering this wrong... it might have been another team, or it might have never happened at all... seems like it did though.

As for Hell's Bell's on 3rd down, it's just downright cruel that it is going to be taken away. Saddens me. I now will have to listen to the band play the Phantom of the Opera intro on 3rd downs again... and nobody wins in that situation.

Now that you mention it, it seems like I recall that as well.

I remember the original ban—2002 if I recall this correctly—and how it was expanded a year later.

I don't recall who/which school sponsored it though. Do you?

I always thought that one of the objectives of a game was to gain an advantage so your team might win said game. So MSU rings cow bells, big deal. I say the so called rules makers should focus on legally controlling THE GAME and leave the noise making to whomever does it best. Geez, don't these control freaks have something better to do?

There's always something people are whining about. Play Hell's Bells, play the damn rooster crowing, jingle some hick bells, I don't care. I don't see what the big issue is. If a team can't stop a team because of some stupid song or cow bells then the coaches to teach them up a bit better. IMO.
