What was the deal with that? How does such a genius make such an egregious mistake?

I would rather a coach to nearly waste a timeout, than to kick off to start the game and to start the second half.

maybe you guys missed it, but one game this year Nick Saban kicked off to start the first half and the second half. Either they chose to kick instead of defer the opening coin toss, or they chose to kick instead of receive to start the second half

You know more football than I do though.....so Im sure I just missed it while you picked up on it.

P.S. did you check out my proof of timeouts above?

I think you're dead wrong, and grasping at straws to compensate for your coach of choice.

Please point out which game it was.

If a coach chose to kick twice, I'd say he was relying on the strength of his defense to provide good field position, or that wind was a major factor. If a coach tried to call a timeout after a turnover, only to be physically restrained by his assistant, I'd say he was an idiot.

If a coach can't speak in complete sentences BEFORE losing by six touchdowns, I'd say he was an idiot.

If a coach chooses his hats from the children's rack AND can't speak in complete sentences, I'd say he was an idiot.

If a coach chooses to drop the f-bomb at a public speech with wife and young kids as a backdrop, I'd say he was an idiot.

That's going to leave a mark.

Hell, in 1992 kicking off to start both halves SHOULD have been Gene Stallings' decision. As I once read from some writer 'the best way for Alabama to score is to punt on first down and put their defense back on the field.' (Sadly, that cannot be said about the 2007 stop unit.)

And I remember one time when Coach Bryant (in the days when deferring was not an option) instructed our captains that 'We want to kick the ball that way (pointing to our student section).' He assumed the captains understood that was the option if we LOST the coin-toss.

Well, our guys won the toss and told the ref 'We want to kick the ball that way (pointing to our student section).' So kick it to start the game and kick it to start the second half we did. We still won the game however.

Coach Bryant, of course publically assumed full responsibility for the goof, but I do recall him having a few choice words in private for the captains questioning their intelligence.

Now, back to the present. Will our bayou friend please tell us which game - and the circumstances surrounding the decision, this year or while at LSU when Saban made this decision? Or is this some hypothetical question?

And I guess our cajun brother is actually happy that a coach who makes such stupid decisions is no longer leading his beloved team?

I love that Miles footage for the Bayou Bash, or whatever. I like how he says "We took 5 from Texas.....and we took 2 from Alabama." That is classic funny stuff.

-I liked the military salute at the beginning and the smoker's cough yelling "go to hell Saban!"...like that adds to a recruiting rally..?

True or False

Bayou you seem to like these type "questions" so what is the answer to this thread?

Normally I'd let this thread go as an idiot being an idiot. Not today.

Which game was it?

I really think he might have been stoned out of his mind when he started this thread. I don't think he has an answer.
