Any of you Huntsville folks ever eat at Nolan's BBQ (think that was the name, only went their a few times when we visited)? My cousin in Athens owned a few of those about 30 years ago. He (Joe Johnson) was a pretty big Bama fan - passed away years ago. Not sure why I was thinking about Nolan's...now I'm getting hungry

I joined much earlier than that. This whole forum was on a different server and was moved over to a new one a few years ago. Some had to re-register.

:cool_blue: We tried to warn ya! We didn't KNOW that would happen, but were pretty darn certain it might. It all had to do with active email accounts...

More participation is always nice to have in terms of ad revenue defraying costs of hosting and software. But with that "good" always comes the bad. While we've ran off a few, I know we've banned less than five Alabama fans. Those that were "ran off?" It was always a case of thin skinned members or trolls whose bait was seen for what it was.

Outside of spammers, it's amazing how few we've banned. In fact, I can tell you who the last one we banned was. Funny thing about him is when he joined we told him who he was, where had been banned, and why that had happened. But, didn't hold that against him.

In the same light, we've added a few things behind the scenes that can make "unwanted members" time here a real headache and it has nothing to do responses, etc.

Haha it's no big deal. I never minded having to re-register. With such a big move there's bound to be complications.

But, in this case,I had no earthly idea what I did to deserve the boot. So, I figured maybe I just posted something that came off wrong. In the notification I received, I was told that it was a level one banning. Meaning that it would be a temporary suspension of one month. So, I figured that whatever I had done must not have been too bad. But, when that month was up, I still couldn't get back into my account. So, I e-mailed a mod and was told that during my one month suspension, the decision had been made to convert the temporary suspension to a permanent ban. The mod and I e-mailed back and forth and I even pointed out the site's policy regarding infractions and suspensions. The mod finally told me that, one, they reserved the right to issue a permanent ban at any time, and that while a permanent ban was usually issued only after a poster had been suspended twice, sometimes they found it necessary to convert a suspension to a ban, (as they had done with me) and two, the issue was closed. So, that was that, and to this day, I still don't know what caused it. Fortunately, it remains the only time I have ever gotten a permanent ban.

Funny I mention banning spammers...as soon as I do, tulisa888 is a spam bot.

I try and go through new registrations every morning checking for spam but know i miss some at times, i might start pruning users that have not made a single post to clean up the database more, so be sure to post at least once :fresse:

Please don't Doemasters. I will be the first to admit that I'm more of a reader than poster. I've been lurking/reading your site since my kid attended UA back in 2007. Ever since then I have been a fan. We go to at least 1 home game a year. We have a lot of fun and hopefully we can continue going to a game once a year.

you would have been fine with having one post and all, plus i would look at activity date which would also be the last time you logged in and everything, it would be just a way to catch spam from being on the site if that makes sense

Yes, I was on both of those and have no idea what happened to Clay's. All I know about CC was that it it got hacked a few times and the guys running it just decided not to keep it going after the second or third time. Don't really blame them, that's has got to be a giant pain in the backside to keep rebuilding a site.

I've never been to Nolan's, not sure it's around. Ever since Dreamland opened that's the only place I go for ribs. Big Bob Gibsons is pretty good also for any BBQ other than ribs, there not bad I just prefer Dreamland!!
