🏈 New ILBs Coach... Freddie Roach?

When has he scooped anything about Bama? Braxton Miller was a lock to be our QB in the fall? Yes sir, that was one of his scoops.

He's another Scott Moore. He's certainly not new to Bama, or a newbie trying to be a "news breaker." He's stirred the pot on more than one forum in his day. I'm pretty certain he was involved in Alabama's latest probation scandal (before Textbook gate) and Travis Carroll.

He did try to go the independent route and start his own premium web site. That ended with him getting subscription money and then shutting the site down. He didn't get my money, but the point he ripped some Bama fans off shouldn't go unnoticed.
There were several sources saying Braxton Miller was going to be our QB, if his shoulder checked out.

It didn't.

I don't recall that, SLO. I kept up with the Miller story pretty closely.

I realize no one is correct 100% of the time; no one. But, there is a difference in saying "he's going to be" and "he's expressed interest." The later was indeed true. Braxton said it in Birmingham when he was getting a check-up. redfish, and his band (for lack of a better word,) were laying that (he'll be in Tuscaloosa) down as law.

Honestly, I look at redfish in the same light as I do Danny Sheridan. Or, Scott Moore. All of them were pushing "Cam tapes" but not a one stood up when it came time to "put up or shut up."

FWIW, he's good friends with Pruitt. It seems, to me, saying he's good friends with one of the friends of the Saban's ...how does that differ from me, or you, or anyone for that matter?

I suspect if he's going to openly share what Pruitt tells him he's going to see his "info sources" dry up and dry up quickly. Barger has had that happen before but that time it was due to Pruitt going to Tallahassee (coincidentally, roughly around the same time he shut his premium site down leaving a lot owed money.)

Braxton came out and said yesterday at Senior Bowl practice that he never "had any contact, at any point" with Alabama coaching staff about a transfer. Made it pretty clear. Said he was in the state for some rehab and rumors started flying. Said he called DePriest while in the state, who he has evidently been friends with in Ohio for a long time. Did mention that it gained him some Alabama supporters and he was complimentary of that. Does anyone have sources that that confirm he had interest in joining our team? Because he sure doesn't indicate he did. I remember Finebaum mentioning it numerous times, but who knows where he heard that. Is Miller just saying this to save face since he didn't make the move? Who knows. But I doubt he's lying when he said he never was in contact with any Alabama coaches.

@Rolltide24 I live in Charleston and love it here ... I hear Savannah is nice and I'd like living there as well. Seems like a great opportunity there.

That's a hypothetical ... but I hope it makes a little sense. I have a friend who works with the surgical group, not the rehab group, that said Braxton was caught up in conversations like that with athletes while in Birmingham. He showed interest in Alabama and a few other schools but the interest wasn't I'm making the move to Bama. The best I can recall how she put it was something along the of him saying, "look at the system there, I could fit in, I'd like playing at Alabama." The thing is there were several schools those athletes talked about and you saw several schools suddenly linked to Miller.

Let me see if I can find the thread from several months ago ... be at a PC in a few hours.

I dont doubt that he never spoke to the coaches. Doesnt mean he wasnt interested in doing it if he decided to make the move tho.

So, do we have an ILBs coach yet?
Nothing official. I doubt we'll see anything until after NSD at this point.

I suspect that the reason Roach was linked to the ILB job was due to it being reported he was out on the recruiting trail. Putting two and two together makes sense there. As example, a lot pointed to Kiffin and Tosh being on the road recruiting as signs they weren't planning on moving on.

There's is a problem with seeing Roach recruiting and automatically assuming it meant he was "done deal" with the open position; Kerry Stevenson was out recruiting the same week as Freddie.

Changing the subject here a bit ...

How many times can you guys think of where we had a pretty good indication of who was going to be the new guy hired in situations like this one? Off the top of my head, I can count two. One, with Pruitt. That made sense (though I've still got my apprehensive feelings about him.) The second one goes back to Middleton leaving after 2007; Williams was a logical choice considering the history with Saban and Bobby.

Nuss? Mac? Kiffin? Tosh? Tucker? All of these guys pretty much came out of the blue.

I realize articles speculating on Saban's "hot list" are entertaining and fill that "need" people have to know what's coming up. I also realize they've been wrong FAR more often than right.
