🏈 New Atlanta stadium 'ready' to welcome Alabama

Don't forget HS games and State Championship games will be played there as well. Chik-Fil-A will survive there, even if they aren't getting all of the Falcons fans.

Atlanta United has averaged 46,000 a match at Bobby Dodd. The first match at the new stadium could be a sellout. Support here has been crazy, even on weeknight games. Traffic for those has been a killer, though. I'm just a little over two blocks from Tech's campus.

It's one of the largest sponsors of events in the new stadium, it's a southern icon and an Atlanta institution. Only 11 of 27 football games to be played there this season will be on a Sunday, by the way. On Sundays, the stands will revert to a generic, stadium-operated stand. Interestingly, the generic stands will carry a "COS Chicken Sandwich", which stands for "Closed on Sunday".

RTR,

Tim

Okay, I appreciate everything you said and I didnt realize all of those other things go on at the stadium, but I fail to see the "slant" that ESPN gave this story in their article? I just read it a second time and its stating literally nothing but the facts, even giving Chik-Fil-A's argument that being closed on Sunday's makes Monday's that more busy. I fail to see any bias or slant in that reporting at all.

ESPN leaves one with the impression that the majority of events are on Sundays, casually mentioning two college games but not noting all the others that will take place. The novelty of Chick-fil-A being closed Sundays should have waned since they're now in the top ten nationally, yet ESPN reports like it's breaking news. Mr. Cathy's statement of Mondays being busier isn't an argument for being closed Sundays. It has nothing to do with it. He followed a belief that meant enough to him to forego profits. Sundays are much more active than Mondays in fast food. People who don't share Mr. Cathy's beliefs will always have a difficult time wrapping their heads around it.

Come on man, you have to be more business savvy than this. The Falcons may be the "home" team, but there is so much else that went on at The Dome and that will go on here that Chik-Fil-A will do just fine revenue wise. And what does Mercedes Benz care as long as they pay their rent. Concerts, football games, soccer games, monster truck, motorcross, College Football Championships, playoff gsmes etc will all allow for Chik-Fil-A to do well. Trust me, companies like Chik-Fil-A are smarter than the media and those questioning their move here. And in the end, why invest so much time into giving a **** like so many are on this?

Mercedes Benz doesn't care because they don't own the place and don't collect rent. Arthur Blank owns it and I'm sure that having a concession stand is tied into other sponsorship elements that CFA is paying mucho dinero for. It's a deck chair thrown off of the Titanic.

By Mercedes Benz, I just meant the ownership group of the property. Arthur Blank doesn't personally own it, he just owns the Falcons. And my other point was that they are paying for that spot, so no one should give a crap about when they are open. Chik-Fil-A knows what they are doing and I have a sneaky suspicion they had an analyst, maybe two, calculate sales and revenues with the notion they would miss some Sunday football games.

There was nothing more exciting than that pre-season chatter about playing in The Dome. It used to be the Final 4, and Championships were played at home stadiums, but it was still the goal in every kids dream for that season. It still rings to me just in thinking back and going to see those games that these current kids are gunning for the same goals as we once did. Very powerful stuff.

They'll get a Final 4 for NCAA Basketball too, soon. Think that's played on a Saturday and a Monday if I'm not mistaken.

That's not true...

"The stand will be open for the two college football games, dubbed the Chick-fil-A Kickoff games, during the season's opening week. The game between Alabama and Florida State is on Saturday, Sept. 2, while the Georgia Tech-Tennessee game will take place two days later on a Monday. The stand will also be open for non-Sunday games played by the Falcons' co-tenant, the Atlanta United of Major League Soccer, also owned by Blank."

I'm not trying to cause one of our classic wars here but it just seems like you went into that story looking for a reason to pick it apart because it was EPSN. I just dont see the slant here, the point of the story was talking about the Falcons games and the fact that Chik-Fil-A won't be opened during THOSE games. And I didnt say that it being busier on Monday was an argument for it being closed on Monday. The article clearly states why its closed on Sunday, I was saying that he argues that Monday's are busier BECAUSE they are closed on Sundays.

ah. see i didn't know there was quite THAT much going on there. i only care about one team that plays there...when we get to, lol.

I don't know what they inject into the chicken but that is the key. Popeyes has better crust on their chicken but the flavor inside the meat(white meat) of CFA is better. Now give me a Popeyes leg any day of the week. Not much on Bojangles, they do have some good breakfast biscuits. Hell, gimme Publix fried chicken over any of them.

No, we can just disagree. I agree with some of what you're saying. The tweet was more slanted than the article, in my view.

I don't like CFA's biscuits very well, everything else is good. Their service, in general, is superior to other fast food options. You can go to an seemingly overrun CFA and you'll get your food more quickly than at an empty Arby's or Burger King. I think Bojangles' breakfast and service is very good, too. I've eaten in dozens of Bo's in NC and SC, and then several in GA and AL, and the service is almost always good. The ladies at the Oxford store are as sweet as can be. I agree on Publix for fried chicken. Occasionally I'll get Bojangles chicken, but I haven't considered darkening the door of a KFC for years. I went to the Big Chicken after it reopened for the novelty of it, and that was enough.

Tim

That's fair... I honestly didn't even pay attention to the tweet.

Service would be the thing I would give CFA the advantage on, everyone genuinely seems like they like being there which is likely because they aren't treated like crap by their employer. I compare it to Publix vs. Wal Mart. Wal Mart is very much cheaper but everyone there is absolutely miserable and more times than not rude as hell, likely because they're treated like crap. Compare that to Publix, where everyone is smiling, nice and seems like they really want to help you and are happy to be there. I'm sure being paid alot more at Publix helps that atmosphere for them. Never had their fried chicken but love the deli meat.

As far as biscuits goes, no one is ever going to touch Hardees IMO, especially that chicken biscuit, and honestly I dont know how KFC is even still open. I dont know anyone that enjoys KFC at this point. One thing Enterprise has an abundance of is chicken spots though, Popeyes, KFC, Churchs, CFA, Bojangles, etc. but Popeyees is also my No. 1 choice with Bojangles and Churchs right behind. Church's sides suck hard though so that brings them down.

Y'all want a real biscuit, go try Mamie's off Evans Mill Road. Shwew boy. Their lunch is great too. Little run down looking place, but damn good.

Expanding on the Publix/Walmart and CFA/other fast foods difference, it really is about the culture. Pay might be better to some degree, but making sure everyone is valued and you're in a position you enjoy. I used to have to fly Airtran before they were acquired by Southwest, and that was a group of miserable, bitter people. About six months after the merger, it was like flipping a switch - they were a group of positive, helpful people. There are always exceptions, but I've never seen an airline with so many helpful employees than Southwest.

From a business leadership standpoint, Tribal Leadership is a good book on group dynamics and achieving goals. It's about moving from the me to the we. Here's a TED talk on it.

I miss living in Rainbow City. Had a Publix next door(try their chicken and their subs), Popeyes and Bojangles a couple of blocks away. Had to go up Rainbow Drive to Gadsden for the CFA, Moved back home to Ft Payne, to keep an eye on my dad(85 and not in the best health). They finally opened a CFA recently. Now just need my Publix, Popeyes and Bojangles. Agreed, hate KFC, have not ate there in years, except when I do the occasional Taco Bell(about twice a year) in one of their combo joints.

Hardees is still the king of fast food biscuits and their burgers are much better now, since the merger with Carls, Jr.
