Since Auburn is involved in the game next Wednesday I know better than to even remotely cheer for Auburn. However, I'm conflicted for tonight's game. I have no allegiance or loyalty to either Arkansas or THE Ohio State University.

Please enlighten me as to the level of animosity 'bama fans have for Arkansas. As a rule do 'bama fans have a dislike for the Razorbacks or are they kind of like Colorado State has been to Utah? The only reason you would want to see them win is for the good of the conference but if they lose you really don't care that they did?

Shasta.

Generally speaking the SEC pulls for the other SEC schools in bowl games. There are exceptions. Next week when Auburn hits the field I will be an Oregon Duck fan as will most of the Alabama nation, however I think around the SEC other SEC teams will pull for them. (If Auburn played Satan and his demons, I would be there with a "Go To Hell" shirt on)

For the most part Bama fans will pull for their SEC counterparts in bowl games. The only exception (typically) would be Auburn (for obvious reasons) and Tennessee. The Bama/UT rivalry is one that took on bitterness during the Phat Phil Fulmer years. Due to his desire to destroy other programs as opposed to building up his own, he created a bitterness in a great rivalry that was once based on a mutual respect of the other. In recent years UT has declined, but now that Phil has been run out, I really do like to see UT do well other than the 3rd week in October. I was actually pulling for them to beat Kentucky in their last game of the year to become bowl eligible.

On a side note, Bama has more bowl appearances and bowl victories than any other FBS school. We also have more SEC championships than any other SEC school. More national championships as well. All of that creates a little bit of jealousy by our SEC brethren. So while we may not be shown the love by all of our SEC counterparts, we as a fan base generally try and maintain our class and pull for them.

Screw the SEC. I root for Alabama, not the conference. I wear and Alabama hat... not an SEC hat. I take great pleasure in watching teams like auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina lose. I don't even want Vandy winning. I want them all to lose, have a miserable bowl experiences, and have their flights delayed on the way home. Is the SEC the best/strongest overall conference in CFB? Yes, without a doubt... but I don't need them going 8-0 in bowl games to validate that for me.

No, you just need it as evidence to the fact. Not to mention Alabama makes a decent chunk of change off of fellow SEC teams making it to & winning bowl games.

You may, but I don't. I'd never use anything other than a championship game for a measuring stick on how good teams actually are in the post season. Way too many teams lay eggs and play flat in bowl games because they simply don't care or because of other factors such as coaching changes... As for money, the SEC is always going to fill the bowls with teams, and they aren't going to pay UA any more if those teams happen to win their games... so I just prefer they don't.

Thanks, Porter, for saving me some typing. Well put!

Well, then you're the guy that makes a claim & offers nothing to back it up. And, I might be mistaken, but I believe they are/do.

As faras SEC schools go, I have nowhere near the level of animosity towards Arkansas as say the barn or UT. When you line that up with my detesting Ohio State I pulled for the Piggies last night. It was one of the better bowl games to me, though Arkansas couldn't make one last big play at the end to pull it out.

I'm more like the guy who doesn't have to rely on SEC bowl victories to reassure him that the SEC is the best overall conference in terms of talent and teams. I know enough about the scope of college football to have that assertion validated in a number of other ways. Besides, is that really a debate these days? Is any clear minded individual out there confused about which conference is the best? I know a lot of folks who have zero allegiance to the SEC, and all of them know the truth. It isn't an issue with folks who know football and don't carry around a bias.

Something that is few & far between.

BTW, I just saw your PM & tried to reply but your box is too full to take anything. I'm glad you got the check. Thanks for help again!
