šŸ“” NCAA president: Football teams likely to have staggered starts, unequal number of games - Chattanooga Times Free Press

For football, the working plan is six weeks of conditioning and practice before playing games, though that's not "set in stone," Hainline said.
"All the various (NCAA) member committees and the conferences are all talking about: What does it mean if we have that sort of scenario where we've got different opening times or different opening models," Emmert said.
"What does it mean if you look at a conference, for example, if a conference has some schools open and some not? You can't run a regular schedule if you've got that scenario. How do you adjust all the rules to provide as much flexibility as you possibly can to let student-athletes have a good experience in that season?"
Enter "let's expand playoffs" coming in the back door ...

NCAA rules require teams to play nine games in a season.

that would be useless...might have multiple undefeated teams like 5+ also could have someone with 1 loss who is way more deserving in that instance....how do you quantify if someone only has to play 8-9 games vs 10-11?

By rule, a team will have to play nine games to qualify for post season play. The article touches on that just a bit.

If we're looking at a 9-0 Big 12 team versus a 11-1 SEC team? I'd hope strength of schedule would come into play, immediately. In UA's case, even if they lose the USC game, things look positive for that game to be replaced by a Big 12 opponent.

Recently I heard a Congressman or perhaps a Governor say "we can't let this crisis go to waste." {sic} It's that type of mentality that gives me reason to believe now is as good of a time as any for those in favor of pushing the playoff expansion through to do so (even though a lot are against the idea.)

It'll blow the sport apart. You'll see a team coming from the PAC, or some other conference, that's a game over .500 in conference play getting a playoff spot over much more deserving teams.

Imagine in the B1G's commissioner if Alvarez see's a Wisconsin team getting left out with one loss. You don't think ol' Barry would be screaming? Their commissioner is always complaining about something. He's been begging for expansion for a few years.

And now what, you're going to say "let's go to 16?"

Hell. Let's go back to the bowl system.

Can't really say that when people are buying things to improve their home(s,) in turn hopefully increasing value.

I've seen a few I know buy things like a new mattress, another used her money as a portion of a downpayment on a new car. I'm sure we can find someone who spent all of theirs to buy a lot of bullshit but I've not see a lot of that from people I know or have seen.

I would like to know what fans can afford an expanded playoff? If they add it in as a home game, I understand a little more, but another travel destination has to kill dreams of bringing in the cash. Put aside that I don't like the idea, but I want to know who can afford plane tickets, hotels, food, game tickets, and other expenses for three games in the postseason. If you have a secret to minimizing these costs as a traveling fan, pretty please let me know.

Sure destroyed college basketball by expanding...and nba...and nfl... all now in shambles....

Its going to 8...should have already...tv and their money owns the sport....we know that... and those lower tier bowl games....probably will be a victim....get a few decent more games...some washes,....some upsets ( they do happen)...some blowouts...

Cf has a lot worse enemies than that...free agency...plyers right to sell images...etc...
Those are handing the reins over to the biggggg boys.and bigggg boosters......group of 5 and a lot of smaller power 5...will be hammered... it ain’t professional....or not suppose to be..will resemble such though..

And @BamaFan334 ....it certainly will put a crunch on fans that want to go to games...but if it adds a game and the neutral site early season game is eliminated...
A wash....plus first round may be @ home game for higher seeds...
But ur right...it already is a financial burden... i for one have quit traveling to away games... h9me season package is 1600-1700 plus travel...plus lodging...plus a new outfit for ms50+ for every game...

I can say it........rather be in Hawaii-on vacation

Bet that BAMA vs usc game will go away ... not sure the ā€œ left ā€œ coast will allow that to take place

Could they go to another state to practice prior to school opening? Las Vegas? Phoenix? If Harbaugh can take his team to Paris and South Africa during Spring Break, I'm sure USC can find a way to take its team to another city for football.
