I think one of the break-out players in the SEC is going to be Casey Dick. He didn't do that badly last year. Part of his performance last year has to be attributed to not having Monk in the lineup. Then, part of it has to be attributed to their wildhog formation and having a player like McFadden back there to run it...
In the long run, I would have to think the the Hogs are anticipating Mallet to be the QB of the future. From the Arkansas fans that I have spoken to, they don't see Dicks taking them to the Glory Land. However, Patrino and Mallet (obviously with a strong supporting cast) may.
True, Mallet may beat out Dicks to start in '10, but the point is that by having to wait, the offense will have a new offense in year 1, and a QB battle in year 2, not to mention any changes that might occur because Mallet may be able to do more than Dicks.
As long as they were already putting in a new offense, ARK's best case scenario was to go ahead and have Mallet take it from day one.
