📝 Nation's top recruit Robert Nkemdiche postpones announcement

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7964832

I'm going to tell give you my take on what Robert said, but I would encourage you to watch the video for yourself. This young man is very mature, even beyond the physical aspects. Well-Spoken, thoughtful, at ease in front of the camera. I don't know that I have ever seen a High School Junior who I could say that I think the he will end up with ESPN when he finishes playing years from now, but this guy is it.

What he said:
When asked what he liked about Alabama is that they put a lot of players into the pro, and he cited the NFL draft a few weeks back. He call this (presumably getting to the pros) as his "main thing". He said that he loved the coaches and the way that Kirby Smart stayed after him giving him advice.

He said that LSU was in the hunt because they too produced high caliber D-Linemen and that they played "crazy" defense which is what he plays in high school. As with every other school mentioned, he said that he liked the coaches too.

Interesting was his comment about Ole Miss. He all but implied that they were in the hunt just in case he and his brother there grew closer before Robert signed. :headscratch:

Miss State was going to get a look because he has "another brother" who is there and that too may grow to be an interest.

Texas was mentioned as in the hunt, but he did not seem to be planning even the first visit.

UGA was noted, but so little that it was obvious that they were not a noted threat.

Robert stated that he would announce in the next couple of months, but first wanted to take another visit to Bama, LSU, and Miss State (no UGA, nor Texas) because he wanted to ensure that these three had the same opportunity as Ole Miss, who he has already visited 4 times.

Holy Heck if we get this dude!!! All the leg-humpers will go bat-$#!^ crazy!

Those that aren't living in a dream world have resigned to the fact he's not going play in Athens.

IF those are the leg-humpers you're referring to...

Some still believe they have a chance at Reuben and he very well may switch. BUT, it isn't going to be a switch to UGA.

If Derrick Henry flips? The meltdown will be EPIC.

Yep. Things must be going good for us because we are becoming "well-hated" again. That whole "success breeding contempt" thing. My UGA buddies don't even want to talk football nearly as much as they used to. I try to rib them and it's as if they are almost resolute. I also sense they are very guarded about their lofty preseason ranking. I am not sure if they buy it or not.

They may realize the schedule for next season is easy, but leaves them ill-prepared for ATL IF they make it that far. Funny to see some hang on to the 1st half of the SECCG as proof they can compete with teams like LSU.

Just yestreday my UGA buddy approached me and ask what's this I heard about Alabama trying to steal our prized RB commitment. I sensed that it was part probing for details from the enemy camp and part concession that he was worried. He add that with their current stable of RBs that it would be understandable if Henry flipped because it would surely be a couple of years before he saw meaningful playing time. (I simply replied I'm not haven't heard a thing, and grinned.)

That said, UGA is in love with the RBs that they have already and my buddy may be on to something. Short of the Dawgs taking a page from Bama's and LSU's playbook, that is to say playing a lot of RBs, Henry may have to sit.

The door may be open, and it is a long time before anyone can lock anything.

This amuses me a bit. Georgia has recruited some good backs the last few years, but beyond getting them on campus what have they done with them?

If we make a comparisn of the two teams we see a Bama program that has put two in the league as 1st round picks. We see a UGA program that--during the same period--haven't had a back ranked in the top 70 in the NCAA in rushing.

Seems UGA needs a back more than we do.

After chewing on the story about Robert for a while some stood out to me. His comment about wanting to make sure that several schools had the same number of visits is about creating the appearance that everyone was given a fair shake. Once the visits are done, in a couple of months, he plans to announce. And yet he still has a great deal of time. If the rescheduling was about not yet knowing, why would he limit his time to make a wise decision?

He has already visited these schools, save for Texas that does not look like it will ever get one. This sounds like a decision has been made, if not yet committed to, and that other schools are aware of this and want one last shot to turn him.

QUESTION: Why would some one care about a fair-shake appearance though? If you know where your heart is, why visit others? Could it be a recruiting tactic (i.e. CNS wants Robert to consume one of their limited numbers of allowed visits?

All we can do is guess.

The first one that comes to mind is not wanting the commit public so it won't have any effect on other recruits we may be after.

I'm not saying those kids aren't welcoming competition. I am saying a commit from Nkemdiche is ammo in other recruiters arsenals. IE: "You'll be buried behind..."
