🏈 Muschamp to USCe

I stopped reading at "Lance Thompson is a respected coach"

More from Tate. Conflict himself much? I'm reading too much into this I'm sure.

After the Arizona athletic director trolled South Carolina into oblivion tonight by announcing to the Twitter world that his coach (Rich Rodriguez) had spurned the Gamecocks, it appears Will Muschamp indeed will become the new coach in Columbia.

Expected to join him will be Bobby Bentley, whom Gus Malzahn would like (have liked?) to have on the Auburn sideline next season. Travaris Robinson also will have a chance to join Muschamp at USC. As we reported earlier today, Malzahn would like to keep Robinson as the Tigers' defensive coordinator and my inclination is to believe Robinson will stay here.

However, he has competing offers from Maryland and, now, South Carolina.

However, we believe Florida State defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, a former Auburn player from Skipperville, Ala., also may be in play at Auburn. Those are the two names to watch right now.

Will anyone else leave with Muschamp? That's unclear. Lance Thompson is a possibility, though he's a difficult guy to read.

We'll have more on this as it comes available.

@12gage

No matter the circumstance I'll be the first to say Lance will always look out for himself.

In this whole sordid story I have to think his marriage, relatively new, to an affluent Auburn socialite / booster may play into his story.

Was Rodriguez really in play at South Carolina?
From what I understand, not before Boom. A "Plan Bb," if you will.

A few things to note here. Look at who the tweet is coming from. Greg Byrne. He was a bit of a punk when he was at Mississippi State and I've no reason to think he's changed.

A PR move, in his opinion, that was clever (again, his opinion.)

Not a lot unlike Kliff Kingsbury running his mouth about the HUNH offense awhile back ... and he's still an infant in coaching.

It's been Muschamp for several days according to one group. Tanner had to smooth some ruffled feathers from what I understand.

In a way, the UofSC ordeal is a lot like Coach Moore and Malcolm Portera before Saban was hired ... ironically, with RichRod floating around that as well.

Why are people mad at him? If you worked somewhere for just one year and somewhere else offered you what is basically a promotion you would take it. I understand being upset if he leaves for another d coordinator prosition. But he took a head coaching job. Congrats coach.

Words mean something to some people. To say repeatedly that "I am in it for the long haul" after signing a very lucrative 3 year deal and jetting for a crappy job no one else wanted because you rumoredly got your feelings hurt again is par for the course.

The biggest reason of all is, I never cared for him that much to begin with. Yes, he's a very good dc. I always wondered why he was so coveted as a head coach and was not surprised in the least when he crapped the bed at uf.

I appreciated him when he was here because he was helping my school, now he's just another a**hole coach and if he goes 2-10 next year I will giggle all the way through it. I hope he crashes and burns in a manner that makes the Hindenburgh jealous.

Congrats Coach Muschamp - AU Football Forum

Can't believe they couldn't find a better candidate. Talk about a guy who's stock went down... Embarrassed himself in the Iron Bowl after embarrassing himself all season, after embarrassing himself at UF by running a branch of the probation office.

Honest to goodness I don't see why Auburn would be disappointed. He had no long term outlook at AU and this season was very ugly. I guess it will hurt them in recruiting, but it's not like they won't get good players anyway. Especially if they fill the job quickly with a solid candidate. JMO

It was on a Sunday, no less, that the very same thing was said by hundreds ... that date; November 25th, 2012.

The difference? They were talking about one Gene Chizik. We see what he's done with the UNC defense this season.

Because they lost a good DC and they lost an ex Auburn player/coach Travaris Robinson as well to South Carolina. Muschamp made him a DC...did Auburn try to match the offer? What does this say about Malzahn's future at Auburn. Auburn might continue to get good recruits, but if Malzahn keeps put them on the offensive side of the ball it won't really matter.

Can we agree that the word "good" needs to be replaced by "highly ranked?"

We've been watching Malzahn recruits for over five years now. Who can you point to and say, "highly ranked that lived up to their potential?"

I think i woke up the family laughing at this

Wait 'til you see the whole staff.

November, 2014, Florida loses to South Carolina in overtime. Soon following that collapse, the staff at Florida is fired largely due to offensive ineptitude. Among those on that Florida staff was one Kurt Roper serving as offensive coordinator.

December, 2015, among the first coordinators hired at UofSC by new Coach Will Muschamp, former Florida OC Kurt Roper.

I understand both Weis and Pease are available...

The barners are in mourning over this. But why? Really, why? Isn't this the same dude that bolted on them in 2007, after just two seasons? So, his first and second stints at auburn COMBINED only amounted to 3 seasons. They really mean it when they say "we did not see this coming". Then again, this is the auburn fan base, so I shouldn't be surprised by anything that comes out of their hotdog holes.
