🏈 Minkah Fiztpatrick Works with Safeties during Tuesday Practice

The team practiced outside during the bye week on an unseasonably warm day in Tuscaloosa, where the temperature was at 85 degrees at 4 p.m. The team worked in shorts and shells. Here is what I witnessed during the media viewing period.

The media got one period, which was individual drills and not dime or nickel drills, so we weren't able to see who was playing at safety. But, as I wrote during the latest notebook, Minkah Fitzpatrick is a possibility and he was going through individual drills behind Ronnie Harrison and Hootie Jones at safety.. Nick Saban will speak to reporters tonight and he might give an update. Stay tuned.

Trayvon Diggs was still with the wide receivers so it doesn't appear that he'll be moving back to the secondary with the loss of Eddie Jackson. Of course there is always the possibility that he could switch after the media left the viewing window.

Inside linebacker Rashaan Evans looked like he was having his midsection wrapped at one point during practice. As he ran to catch up to his position mates, Evans appeared to be moving somewhat cautiously. It didn't appear to be anything serious.

Lester Cotton was still at right guard with the first team.

Scouts from the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings attended practice.

Problem is that when 29 was playing corner, it seemed to eliminate 1 side of the field in passing game. A few passes have been completed on Fitz while he was at corner, but most of the time Hump was the corner that was challenged. Avert has also been attacked when at CB and he has had a few moments but has struggled a good bit as well. With Minkah at safety, I would think opposing OCs would consider both corners vulnerable.

Completely agree. With our DL/front 7 it seems like the CB position is a bigger challenge. Regardless, wherever Minkah ends up there is a stud on the field

I just pray Tony Brown is able to handle this responsibility full time. No more what ifs, he has to prove his potential starting now.

That open field hit in the A&M game where he just bounced off the dude made me cringe. Its called wrapping up Tony..

Downtown Tony Brown, he's a striker. Looks like Minkah at safety and Tony back at corner.

I like the way Tony play.

I was thinking it would be Avarett at the permanent CB... With Brown at Star. Seems unlikely for Saban to go with Brown full time with Avarett getting so many snaps this season
Another Jersey boy, Home boy for my wife.

I wouldn't try to predict Tony Brown for full-time anything. It was just briefly mentioned today that Tony worked at corner. Saban says he will be doing a lot of mixing and matching. Tony is versatile and that's all I would feel half safe in projecting about him.

Minkah has been burnt almost as much as Humphrey. He plays his best roving all over the secondary, but all our guys get hit deep except Eddie. Like I have said before, he is a great surveyor of the field and I think will be great if they line him up st safety.

Yeah, me too. Wrapping up must be hard to teach a DB. I've noticed it's a problem across the conference.

The aggie safeties were notorious about it. Tony is physical but he's also a ball hawk and he will jump a route in a hurry. IF Brown goes to the 'star' and 'money' he will be playing a lot of reps for the Tide, so he needs to be very fundamental. I kind of feel for Fitzpatrick, being yet another position he has to get the hang of in a hurry. I think he will end up being our most valuable defensive player.
