Is he seeing the writing on the wall with Jimbo?

He's one I would have liked to see at Bama at some time or another—not as a head coach, but as a DC.

The article didn't mention this, but he won the NAIA NC at Livingston State (now University of West Alabama) as a HC. The rest if his career he's been an assistant or coordinator. I guess he never had that burning desire to be a HC at a big time school. I don't recall him ever really going after a big time HC position. I too wish he had served a little time at Bama as a coach.

He finished at Bama in 65, so he'd be 67-68 years old. Maybe he wants to step down and enjoy some time with his family. I know that when he goes, FSU will miss him. He's been among the best DC's for a long time.

I don't think it is seeing writing on the wall. I can only imagine that Jimbo went down to Mickey's office begging him to stay on board for a few more years. Having those men on your staff who've been through so many battles only helps a first time HC.
