Earlier today Alabama Governor Bentley ordered all Confederate flags around the Alabama Capitol to be taken down, now it appears he’s taken aim at Auburn flags as well.

Governor Bentley says he has very different reasons for banning the Auburn flag stating ā€œWell for one thing it’s ugly, I mean look at that thing, it’s a messā€.

ā€œAlabama is proud state with a proud tradition of success, we can’t be seen to support losersā€ continued Governor Bentley. Bentley may have been referring to the fact that Auburn lost to Alabama this year in every single revenue sport; he could of course also just think Auburn fans are losers.

The Governor’s office has assured us that he didn’t take this decision lightly, he thought about it for several minutes, but in the end he felt that he had no other choice.

Governor Bentley’s office then issued the following statement:

Today I have taken the extraordinary step of banning the flag of the University of Auburn from flying at state offices or on state grounds. I have done this not because of a personal vendetta against the War Tigers, or any other city college in the great state of Alabama, but because I felt it was what was right.

Auburn represents an unsuccessful rebellion against their betters at our state university. We can’t be seen to live in the past and support a city college over the capstone of our state.

This decree does not prevent private citizens from flying the Auburn flag on their property, if you want to look like a jackass, that’s your decision.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Bentley
Governor of the great State of Alabama

Though Bentley won’t say it surely the final straw was Auburn declaring a ā€œstate of Auburnā€ shortly before losing the Iron Bowl to Alabama 55-44 this past November.

This on top of their desecration of the official state flag of Alabama with their evil orange and blue impurities.

Most social scholars say this is a strong sign that Alabama is moving in the right direction and away from a dark and sorted orange and blue past.

There’s also the underlying suspicion of tree worshiping at Auburn to contend with. The State of Alabama doesn’t want to be seen as endorsing the Wiccan religion. (Wiccans are Auburn fans that pray to trees and talk about being witches on Tumblr.)

When we pressed the Governor’s office on whether the rumors of ceding Auburn to West Georgia (where they naturally belong) are true we got a very ominous ā€œno comment.ā€

This article is of course satire, you should feel free to fly your Auburn flag proudly so that I can laugh at you and your team.

I find it pathetic that all of a sudden everyone is attempting to act all righteous and noble with their actions of bringing down confederate flags and statues. Like this is going to stop racism and make people sleep better at night? People that bitch, will ALWAYS find something to bitch about. We're a country of enablers to where we welcome controversy. The confederate flag means other things than racism for some of us. So because some people need something to whine about, the whole country turns on its back and concedes to their demands.

Look, the church shooting was an unfortunate tragedy, it really was. I just don't think an isolated event should have people trying to delete the past. What's next wiping anything regarding slavery out of the history books because it may possibly bring up Bad thoughts to some?

Personally I've always found it pathetic how so many people take pride in that stupid flag. A flag that represents a horrible time in our country and a group of people that wanted so bad to OWN other humans that they would actually go to war with their own country. It also represents a hell of a lot of death and it represents TREASON which I find so hilarious how 99% of the ppl that wear that flag and hold it with so much pride are the same ones to fly around an American flag screamin "MERICA!" If you wanna go around with that flag, that is your choice and by all means go for it but that stupid flag has no business flying over our capital. Yes it is stupid that it took such a tragedy to bring this much outrage, but thats because there should have been more long before like when they first put that flag over the capital in the 60s (during the civil rights movement which is telling).

Those that say the flag is not racist, think about this. Why do the KKK, skin heads, etc. all adopt that flag? To me wearing that flag or flying it is the same as if a German were to fly a Nazi flag because "its part of my heritage." It would be equally BS as ppl down here saying it.

Do whatever you want in the privacy of your own home, but get that flag out of our government, schools, federal offices, etc. It has no place there.

No more than that damned Auburn flag does ;)

Yet the team you love talks about Dixie in it's own fight song. Why don't you have that removed if anything resembling the Confederate flag is so horrible.

I don't like people walking down the street with their pants to their thighs and 100% of their boxers and ass showing, so why can't we have that removed? I don't like transgender propaganda and ESPN bowing to Bruce Jenner on TV and my kids seeing that pathetic garbage, so why can't we remove that. Be honest about what is happening, people want something to bitch about. Is that flag hurting you from going to bed at night? Is that flag keeping you from living your life? Ban Lynryd Skynyrd on the radio and from Bryant-Denny because their album covers donned Confederate flags. It means different things to different people. This country is all about the power of expression yet people are being hand cuffed for their beliefs and expression. Look at Walmart, Amazon, and eBay. Now it's getting to the point where the outcry is so large you won't even be able to carry it in your own house. Call it stupid all you want, but to some people the stuff you get into is stupid. It shouldn't be about what a screaming few wants, it should be voted on, and if in fact the numbers show it needs to come down, then it comes down. Not some political stunt to make yourself look good at re-election time. This is just a big knee jerk reaction.

My good friend is transgender. She is certainly not pathetic. Perhaps if you knew and loved someone going through that lifelong struggle, you wouldn't be so quick to call them "pathetic".

Also, no one is saying you can't proudly fly your flag or play Skynyrd or whatever. I just want it out of our government, schools, etc. It has never had a place there. Maybe back when these government buildings or schools were in the actual Confederate States, but for over 150 years now, the South has been part of the United States of America and only one flag belongs atop our flag poles (ya know, besides state flags).

Of course this is all a knee-jerk reaction to the Charleston shooting. That's pretty obvious. However, instead of complaining about how a flag is being (rightfully) taken down from government property, we should be more concerned with the fact that people think anything has been "solved" by doing so. Yes, it's a powerful symbol. But it isn't the end. This Tweet summed it up nicely for me:

"A risk in all the flag unanimity: everyone will think this whole race problem in America has been solved and we can move on."

Some progress is progress though .. 50-60 years ago, having a black QB at 'Bama would've been unheard of. And now we are coming off a banner year for Blake Sims. So we're getting somewhere, eh? Here's to hoping for a more compassionate, equal society with each passing year

You can fly whatever flag you want to fly. If you do you should fly it below the American Flag. Someone always makes lemons into lemonade. You can buy a confederate flag made in China for $69.95 instead of $19.95 for a woven one now. There are no more confederate states of America so the flag should only be displayed from a historical perspective and not on any official government flag pole or office. The Alabama state flag has elements of the confederate flag and it does reflect on the historical perspective of the State so it should be left alone. If you let the PC flag police decide for you then remember that you are giving up just a little more of your freedoms and rights .

Sorry but that flag represents a lot of different things to different people and if you want to display it you have your right as an American to do so, but you know that you are insulting some of the people so just beware. One of the battle cries of the Civil War was States rights and somehow it got trumped by slavery. Why we reenact the civil war all across the south doesn't make sense to me because we lost the war. It is actually funny that this goes on every year and there is an industry built around making replica stuff.

It doesn't have a place in school? It's history of this country and of the world, so it does belong in school where kids can learn about the history of this country and what shaped it to it's current state. I don't think I've ever seen it flown at a school, so that's why I'm not arguing that point.

What do you have to say about those people thata want the American flag changed because it is red, white, and blue, and transformed from the Confederate flag? Is that what all this has come to?

I guess we'll be disagreeing on the transgender argument, because nothing you or anyone else can say will make me think a sex change is acceptable and that they were born the wrong gender. For any belief whether it be God or science, nothing proves someone is born wrong gender wise. There are anomalies as hemaphrodites, but claiming you were born the wrong gender is a mental claim, nothing science or religion can explain. Do what you want with your life, that's your prerogative and I firmly believe in your choice to do whatever you want, just don't expect me to accept the word of that person over something that cannot be backed up by anything.

I think we are in the midst of a bad transformation in this country where all white people are forced to prove they're not racist and everyone is walking on razor blades to not offend someone with fears of retaliation or a court room experience. We are not all treated equally, because many people in this country want something for nothing and the government fuels these intensified battles and makes a mockery of attempted peace. A lot of work is left to be done, but I have news for anyone that may not see it my way, there will always be a divide, ALWAYS. Just like the people that have and the have nots, it's one of the oldest stories of man. We aren't changing that, all we can hope for is that both sides of the argument put down their guns and try to work together.

Ok, I could care less whether they fly the flag or not. It doesn't stand for slavery and the civil war wasn't about slavery but the flag does get attached to that time in the mind of black Americans so bring it down and put it in a museum.. no biggie.

But please let's not compare southerners to Nazi's, or black people to the Jewish people. I have heard people regurgitate this sentiment several times because they heard someone else say it on the radio or TV and it's stupid comparison.

Blacks were sold into slavery by other black men and the first slave owner in the United States was...wait for it...a black man.. gasp They were enslaved for a little less than 200 years. It's not right for a human to own a human in my view but this in no way compares to the Jews.

Jews have been enlsaved by Egyptians, Meades and Persians, Romans and it was for a lot longer than 200 years. 6 million Jews were slaughtered by the people who waved that flag, hundreds at a time shoved into furnaces and burned alive, starved to death. Met a Holocaust survivor who showed me a bar of soap she kept from her time in a prison camp. They made the soap from boiled down remains of friends and family and it was all they had to clean themselves with. Jews have been targeted and hated because they where God's chosen people and Hitler believed that the Arian race was superior and was hell bent to prove it.

Southerners at that time didn't know life without having a "slave" or field workers. It was what they grew up knowing and at the time didn't see it as wrong. There were terrible owners and great ones and in most cases the slaves where treated well, fed well and cared for. What they were doing wasn't right but in their defense it was a lifestyle they inherited and just kept going.

Nazi's where truly a hate group. They hated all people who weren't pure white and Hitler wanted to wipe every Jewish seed from the face of the earth and he tried to do just that.

So was slavery wrong.. yes and it always has been. But when it comes to blacks trying to say they have had it like the Jews, it is a no contest. People trying to compare the southerners of that time to Nazi's is also way off base.
