🏈 Mark Richt Fired...

I would be calling Mark's phone non-stop if I were South Carolina. Perfect coach for their program. No shot at them, but no one is expecting South Carolina to make a run for the playoffs; however, South Carolina can be a solid program with 9+ wins on a consistent basis. Richt is a good recruiter and has success vs his rivals.

Richt has stated he doesn't want to coach anywhere else and plans to stay on to help recruiting and such.

Absolutely. Richt would be a homerun hire for the gamecocks. Now that I think of it he would probably be happy there as well. Richt doesnt seem like the type that has to win to be happy at the end of the day.

Agreed. The state of Georgia has enough good players and USCe is close enough, that USCe could easily get 5-10 good ones each year. With Richt that 10 is very possible

UGA went and made the dumbass move that LSwho didn't have the nads to pull! If you are goi to fire a coach that has 9 about to be 10 10 win seasons, you had better have the second coming of Vince Lombardi ready to come in and take his place.

I agree with CNS. Trying to keep up with Bama will turn a good team into a Tennessee replica.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know by now that longtime Georgia head Mark Richt has been fired as of Sunday afternoon. The news came as a bit of a surprise, given that Georgia finished with a 9-3 record this season, and Richt has had 10 years of 9+ win seasons in all 15 years of his tenure in Athens.

Current Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke with the media on the SEC Championship Game teleconference on Sunday evening, and he had some strong opinions about the decision to fire Richt when he was asked. He began his response by saying he wasn’t sure what the world is coming to in the college coaching profession.

“I don’t know what the worlds coming to in our profession. Mark Richt’s been a really good coach and a really positive person in our profession for a long long time. I think when you win nine games that’s a pretty good season.” Saban said on the teleconference on Sunday evening. Especially the body of work that he’s been able to put together there for however many years he’s been there I think its 15 or so.

And, I hate to see — People that have the character and quality, ability to affect young people in a positive way like Mark Richt be a part of our profession, and people don’t realize the importance of some of the other things that go into college coaching. Whether it’s helping develop young men as people, helping develop careers off the field by graduating from school. We all get it, we know we have to win games but winning nine games is not bad, and he certainly won a lot of games for a long time. I hate to see these kinds of things.”

Since 2008, Saban is 3-0 against Richt and Georgia, including the 2012 SEC championship, which Georgia was just a tipped pass away from winning, and going on to play in the BCS National Championship that season. Richt’s overall career record at Georgia was 145-51.

the following is from someone inside the uga program...SO PLEASE TAKE THIS WITH A HUGE GRAIN OF SALT. i am by no means an insider at georgia and this was was posted and relayed to a friend i know and trust.

my friend just got word from someone that mark richt wasn't fired, but that he resigned. he will stay on as assistant athletic director, serve as the athletic ambassador, and run the paul oliver network for uga.

ALSO.....!

heard that kirby smart will be leaving for the uga head coaching job and it will be announced tomorrow. as well, scott cochran would most likely go with him and attempt to get billy napier as well for their offensive coordinator.

and to add, mcgarity will be fired this week; possibly opening the door for richt to become the athletic director.

AGAIN!!! this is all from someone who is a friend of mine who was told by someone they know inside the uga program. none of this has been confirmed, so, as i said earlier, please take this with a huge grain of salt.

Are there many examples of players transferring with coordinators ?

We saw it with Bama and Dee Hart just a few years ago. It's rare, but certainly happens.

South Carolina can be a solid program with 9+ wins on a consistent basis.

UofSC started playing football in 1892. In 123 years they've hit the nine win mark six times. They've had one conference championship in six plus decades ... two reasons I have a hard time seeing them as a team that can win nine consistently.

and to add, mcgarity will be fired this week;

IMO, a big key in the puzzle.

No other school has reached out to Alabama about interviewing Kirby Smart, according to Nick Saban.

Smart, who has been with Saban his entire tenure in Tuscaloosa, is a hot coaching candidate this year and has been linked to vacant jobs at South Carolina and Georgia. Even if multiple schools might be interested in hiring Smart, per reports, they haven't made it known to Alabama.

"I think everybody sort of respects where we are and what we're doing," Saban said. "I think that's probably the reason that we haven't. I'd expect those things to happen when we finish playing."

No. 2 Alabama will play Florida this Saturday in the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome. After that game could be when schools make their intentions to interview Smart known to Alabama.

Multiple news outlets reported Sunday that Smart would be a top candidate to replace Mark Richt at Georgia. Smart played football at Georgia and it has been widely known that he'd be interested in coaching at his alma mater. Sabandecried Georgia's decision to fire Richt after 15 seasons, but said it was a very good job and a coach could win there.

Last week, FoxSports.com's Bruce Feldman reported that Smart was the front runner to replace Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. Saban said Sunday Smart has had coaching opportunities in the past, but deferred to his defensive coordinator for any further insight.

This isn't directed at you @sk33tr, just responding with something that is similar to what you posted.

Grain of salt...these hires rarely happen like they are reported. I can't recall the percentage of reported hires that are actually accurate, without the data in front of me I'd say it's less than 5%. A majority of the time it's just a bunch of smoke/mirrors or wishful thinking by the fans.

I'm not suggesting that they'd inform the players on the details of their plan, but if this was in fact in play like it's being suggested, would you have one of the leaders on your defense talking like this?

“It ain’t right. Ain’t no Georgia football without coach Richt,” Jenkins said. “Just the way he dealt with everybody up here. And the way it went down just don’t sit right. Just from what we’ve been hearing. We’re meeting with (athletics director Greg) McGarity tomorrow. But it’s just messed up.”

“It just was jacked up. Not everybody on the team is sitting right with this,” Jenkins said. “But we’ll find out more stuff tomorrow.”

We're supposed to believe that Kirby has said he's leaving, but hasn't interviewed yet?

Sumpin' ain't addin' up here.

Jimmy Sexton is always working behind the scenes.

If it is true about Smart leaving (Tom Herman, a man with HC experience has expressed an interest), then it's probably best to make this announcement after the SECCG. Keep the focus for one more week.

I heard the exact same thing about Cochran a couple of weeks ago in tge same breath as Kirby leaving, and this was before Richt was fired.
