Ok, maybe I got a little overzealous.

Just not a fan of how ESPN reports certain pieces.

From someone who likes the way Brian Williams reports pieces...OH, the irony!

In all seriousness, I'm not sure they could have handled it any better than they have. If you think about it, the only difference (in terms of choices) is whether to pay for the video or not, right?

I can't say I'm a fan of how they report pieces either. But, the only time I really question their practices is when the other side of the story hasn't been told. In this case, that other side has been told countless times with a different story or two each month.

One take-away from all of this is it continues to shed another bad light on the NCAA.

On the other hand...

Video does go to authenticity.

If he turns the video over to the NCAA, and Johnny is suspended, how much of that alleged $7500 he spent will he recoup?

Considering the track record of the NCAA, would you be readily willing to cooperate with them in any investigative manner? I can't say I would.

On a different note:

Am I the only one curious to see how Manziel scores on the Wonderlic?

The broker said he would not cooperate with the NCAA, and now he claims he wont sell the tape (hes lying). If someone does buy it and it goes public then I would assume the NCAA doesnt need for the owner to cooperate since its public.

On College Football Live yesterday, Herbstreit just about called him just that.

Kirk's reaction was priceless, Im gonna say that it must have been breaking news and they hadnt gotten a preview of what Joe Schad was about to report because Kirk looked legit dumbfounded. I think the comment was "either this is the most outrageously ridiculous story or Johnny Manziel is the dumbest human being in college football" lmao

So let me get this straight, ESPN wouldn't pay for the brokers video, under $10k. Seems strange to me.

This is just another reason I despise ESPN's slandering (they call it news/reporting).

Pretty confident it's against ESPN policy to pay for things like that. And if its true its not slander and Joe Schad is a pretty damn credible source man.

I would imagine there are people in the NCAA enforcement office hoping the tape hits youtube or another outlet like that.

"He's lying?" On that we don't know. But, if it's financially a good move I could see a TMZ/Deadspin site pay money to get their hands on the video. Although once it's out, it's far from something that can be held on to as their own.

Think they did that like 4 months ago....

Ah, gotcha. Looks like they just "re"-listed it today. They lowered the price 26k. It sounded like bigger news when I got the alert (not sure why I keep getting alerts about him, could be because I have it set for 'college football' news, but there are more players in CFB than one guy .. meh).

Too bad the taxidermied animals don't come with it ..

So in one interview his lawyer says they are cooperating with the investigation and in another he's claiming there isn't an investigation.

There never was an investigation into Cam Newton because they never received a letter, remember?

Splittin' hairs here...

Until the official letter is received form the NCAA it is not an Investigation, just something they are investigating. One of those nice lawyer technicalities like the definition of "is".<iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" style="display: none;"></iframe>

It doesn't matter if he plays or not, Bama is gonna beat 'em like the red headed stepchild they are either way.
IMHO he'll be there. The NZAA and tv people won't have it any other way. So unless they have video of him committing a crime I see either one game or a "Cam Newton" special.

Remember the Tubberville Texas Tech cowboy commercial or the new Rich Rodriguez @ Arizona commercial...kinda reminds me of that for some reason. Maybe the cowboy hats :)
