šŸˆ šŸ”Ž- Looking ahead to Oklahoma (Monday interviews with the coaching staff.)

We’ve recruited good RBs, have some of the top from their classes. Tough to say we didn’t recruit the right kids the last couple of years. Ole Miss and Mizzou have 2 of the top 12 rushers in the country, both over 900 yards already and both sophomores.

Justice Haynes has missed 2-3 games and is 18th in the country with 857. That’s more than our entire group of RB’s. Our 6 RBs who’ve had toted the rock this year have a total of 780 yards.

You would be amazed! Most RBs in HS have no clue as to what it means to press the hole. They see green grass outside and immediately bolt out there in HS and outrun everyone. That don’t happen in college. In college, it’s a 0-2 yard gain..

......And what are we gaining now trying to press the hole? We just are not creating many holes to press. 2 or 3 yards is 2 or 3 yards whether trying to press a hole that isn't there or looking for green to the outside. On a run play ,everyone is supposed to block, inside, outside.
We have 5 backs that should have enough natural ability to gain good yardage if blocking is adequate.

If you press the hole or crease, at least your momentum gives you 3-5 yards falling forward.
Blocking is designed for each specific hole, so I have no clue what you refer to as inside, outside. 0 over center, 2,4,6,8 to the right off of each corresponding right shoulder and 1,3,5,7,9 going left. That is basic football! Some plays use pulling linemen or a motioning TE for a kick out block while other plays are man on man.
Correct! We do have 5 backs. Each one has some deficiency in one or more areas, whether it be knowing the playbook, blitz pickup/ blocking, or catching the ball. Backs 4&5 get MAYBE 5 reps tops a week in our offense. They are usually running the opponents offense on scout team. If you recall OJ Howard as a freshman. He was literally like playing with only 10 on offense during the run plays. Everyone knew when he stepped on the field that a pass was coming. It’s the same with these backs. With every team having countless analysts, they pick up on the slightest tendency and chart it.

To some degree at least, yes, I think so.
I ask because I only remember seeing a misdirection pitch once, in which Jam ran it in untouched for a short TD. There’s been a few toss sweeps, which I’d guess have a collective higher YPC average than handoffs between the tackles. I would love to see more of these two plays. Hell I still have nightmares of Spurrier alternating between these two simple running plays in Gainesville in 1991. We didn’t know which way the TB would go-with the flow or against the flow. I don’t know shit, but it seems like two good running plays for when defenses are playing aggressive and you don’t have the OL personnel for inside rushing.

Yes... I made a reference to this is a recent post (last week I think) in a thread that turned into a dissection of the run game issues. I pulled the numbers to look because I suspected the same... and yes... running outside the tackles produced a significantly higher YPC average than running inside. I've also pointed out that this OL has issues running many of the DeBoer/Grubb staples on the outside run plays because they are not quick enough to get out and reach their blocks... but still. It's still produced better fruit overall this season, and IMO, should be leaned into more as we go along.

Speaking of that ...

I agree, there are very few complete ball players. But some players come in ready to play, see Josh Jacobs. My point I've been making is, more often than not, our Ol gets stood up and neutralized at the LOS, getting no push on run plays and whiffing on many pas plays. Oftentimes, there will not be a lane, a hole or a crease big enough for RB to gain more than a couple or 3 yards. Sometimes getting blown up in the backfield for a loss or no gain. An inside run, to me, means a run to either side of either guard. An outside run is self explanatory.

You guys probably already know that I’m not going to watch this game until we have it well in hand. I might check in here a time or 2 but my nerves( my heart is good) can’t take getting beat up or losing…especially with some doomsayers here.

Don’t let the doomsayers impact your enjoyment. Or multiply your frustration. Some of those folks are never really satisfied no matter what. ā€œYeah, we won, butā€¦ā€ Just enjoy the wins and don’t let the losses impact your life. It isn’t that big of a deal. I guess unless one bets on the games and loses money. But that’s on the individual, not the team. So that can be filed away under ā€œTā€ for Tough Shit.

Stockton is still a bitch after what he pulled at Florida.

I'm glad you said this. I've been holding this one back.

I like Mike's GBU threads. You can pull some good stuff out of them you may have missed.

It's still one positive, and two negatives. This forum tends to hang on to the last two and seldom consider what's building on the first.

I also like that thread.
Some of it is just someone’s perception, I’ve been guilty of this, but a lot of it is well thought out observations from past players.
It’s much appreciated.
And might I say, I think Alabama fans are more football smart than some other fan bases.
