I really want to say how poor play calling has been this season. Speed sweeps, for example, were horribly predictable. We then started using McCalebb as a decoy but then continually ran the same pitch play. If I saw that I'm pretty sure LSU did.

I also feel the QB play deserves another comment. It's just awful. We have receivers open and he's either not seeing him or just missing badly on his throws. We should've been first and ten around the LSU 40 or 35 or so on the last possession but Kiehl held the ball too damn long and then BADLY missed an open Emory Blake. It is a bit nauseating.

Play calling was horrific, even when yall started to get a little something going it seemed like EVERY time they'd bring in the wildcat QB and yall would have 2 or 3 negative plays in a row wiping out anything positive that was happening. LSU gave NO respect to the thought that the wildcat would throw the ball.

A few thoughts:

If these two teams lined up again, LSU walks.

Miles and his staff played this close to the vest. It was a game they put on their defense more so than their offense.

I'm not surprised by they play of Auburn's defensive ends. Both are good ball players. The loss of Hurst, as suggested before the Washington game, was evident this week. However, if any team lost their starting LT they would be struggling against those two DE's.

There isn't much I take away from this game and use it to look at ours. I like our chances in November, but we're comparing apples to oranges if we try to take last night and use it as a basis for what happens in November.

Auburn won't lose next weekend. :icon_twisted:
But they wont win either

Which isn't saying much considering total yrds off.
This has got to be one of the worst barn teams in decades.
And you know it's bad when you barner buddies are saying that.
And every aub fan i know is about 2 losses away from having a melt down.
the barn is burnin & i love it. Corndogs played worse game so far.
I didnt see it that close.

Auburn definitely has a qb issue. Their defense has looked very weak for most of the year, but they were looking awfully good for much of the game last night. I tip my cap to the Auburn defense, and to the crowd. But you are right----Auburn's destiny is largely in the hands of their qb.

I've said it before and will say it again, the Barn has NO qb on campus. Play calling was suspect AT BEST last night. I think that Chiz played it too close to the vest as well and it bit him in the ass for the possible upset. The D played "inspired" last night and it was their best performance. LSwho committed too many penalties and a couple of turnovers were costly. Mettenberger looked like a true Frosh back there at times in the pocket. The game was closer than expected by myself and pretty much anyone on the planet.

It was obvious to me that they have all but abandoned the pro-style offense they used in the first few games and have reverted back to a Malzahn-ish offense again.

Here is what a close LSU friend of mine had to say about last night;

I am not real proud of my LSU Tigers in their showing last night. I am especially disappointed in the way Zack Mettenberger performed. He is going to have to step his game up in all areas if he wants to be a quarterback in the SEC. He is too slow in reacting, making decisions, and in just executing the offense. He has a great arm, but he needs to improve in almost every other area of the job or he will hurt LSU in every game they play. He is running about 2 ticks too slow for the SEC at this point, but I guess he can improve with more experience. Florida is going to be a real tough game for LSU especially in the Swamp and the way the Gators are playing now.

I have become less of a Gene Chizik fan as I read his quote in the paper today saying he fully expected to win that game going in when he knows full well that LSU was the superior team. Auburn fought hard, but LSU made crucial mistakes and turnovers that allowed Auburn to make that game so close. Total stats were 378 to 183, and LSU shot themselves in the foot all night.

Why on earth would Chizik say anything other than he expected to win? What kind of leader would he be I he walked into the press conference and said "Well, that went about how I expected. We knew a loss was coming. Questions?"

Its an obvious point, bit I will say it anyway. Auburn has an outsatnding punter, and he, more than any other single factor, kept them in the game. he consistently flipped field position, giving a mistake prone LSU offense a long way to go. Usually they weren't up to it.

Why the hell is Chizik hell bent on sticking with Frazier? I know he's not on the team anymore, but if Auburn had Barrett Trotter out there, they win that game.

Mett got exposed badly. Slow, no pocket presence, and he has a long wind up. Right now, I'd take Jarret Lee over him. And this is the worst LSU receiving corps in a long time.

i watched the game with a couple of AU fans and they were screaming the same thing.....

every time they said it i would simply reply "because he's the best you got". Partly because it's the truth...and partly just to rub it in and make fun of em at an emotional time...lol ahhhh.... the things we do to friends

He's sticking with Kiehl because Clint still isn't 100%. Our 3rd string QB is the freshman that ran wild cat and he would look worse than Kiehl. The game is way too fast for him.

Pike would probably get a look if he weren't a douche.

If Gus didn't burn the bridge with Trotter we're probably looking at a very different season. We at least beat State and likely split Clemson and LSU. I don't know how different we play emotionally Saturday night if we hadn't started 0-2. But, hypotheticals don't help.
