🏈 Looking forward: Ole Miss vs BAMA

You seem to forget that Alabama lost to Ole Miss and Ohio St last year, Auburn and Oklahoma in 2013. If you watch each of those games, those teams hurt us when they used the no huddle offense and/or read-option. Also, in 2013, we also gave up 42 points to A&M; last year we gave up 44 to Auburn. With this year's offense, we can't afford to give up those kind of numbers.
I don't think you are prepared for this discussion.

I"m going to move this to another thread in in the next day or two ... I'm slammed with the "real world" stuff and I've got to get back to this.

Well they are a confident bunch of fuckers. Local morning sports shows are a congratulatory crap fest with the hosts and the callers trying to out do each other over how awesome the bearrebels are this year. I had to pull over and puke twice on my way in this morning

This was probably one of them. From an SEC board:

"We were better than bama last year, and we are better this year!
I've been wrong before, but I've been right too!!
Ole miss is playing every week this year! They want the conference title and more!
They are the real deal this season!
They are better than last year... Fact
Bama is not as good as last year!
Throw history out the window, this is the best Ole Miss team in 50 years
GO REBELS

Saw an old lady with a blow out on side of the fourlane... I slowed down to help until I seen the Roll Tide on her back glass ... Who's rolling now? Hotty Toddy....

Remember Duane Allman!"

Straight Out Of Jackson...

Anytime I see the words "I seen..." I know that the next words will NOT be "... the inside of a book."

"Saban has lost it and the game is passing him by"

"Ole Miss doesn't need to run the ball to beat Alabama"

"OM has way to many weapons for Bama to defend"

As I posted in another thread, Treadwell told a group (my younger brother was present for this) that "We will hang 30 on Alabama and completely shut them down"

It is pretty much conventional wisdom over here that the game is an afterthought and they are Atlanta and playoff bound.

Off topic, but I heard someone say that Ohio State had TWO NFL quarterbacks. Two. I'm thinking, "Yeah, but you can only play one, so what does it matter that the other is watching." That being said, multiple weapons and only one ball. Gee, let's defend the ball.

This week is going to be interesting. If Sissy is as good as her hotty-toddy is making her feel, we'll see a coronation of sorts. If not, the Tide rolls on toward a date with LSWho.

To me, that's a great barometer! Two games, against inferior opponents, and Ole Miss is listening to the hype and believing it. Meanwhile, the doom and gloom crowd has shown up in great numbers for Alabama this year while the team works with a quiet confidence. How do I know this? I could tell you but it's a secret that only insiders would understand. :bolt:

Anyway, I think the Ole Miss coronation will be over after this weekend. UT-Martin and Fresno St. were glorified scrimmages for Ole Miss and they have not faced ANY pressure this season. I think Kelly could be an upgrade over what they had last year but how can you tell that when the best Fresno has shown this year is that they only allowed 13 points to Abilene Christian? Well, I guess when you consider UT Martin hung 72 points on Bethel! I mean, c'mon guys! By the time we normally play Ole Miss, we have a pretty good idea if they are decent or not but not with the opponents they have faced so far. On the other hand, everything from a negative perspective I have read against Alabama has been due to the results of the MTSU game. A game that was WON 37-10, against a team that was able to score 70+ points on Jackson St. the previous week. Sorry but Jackson St. could probably hang with UT Martin and give Fresno a game. All of that being said, so what if Hugh Freeze is a jackass and runs up the score against inferior opponents? We could have done the same but we were trying some new wrinkles on offense that were partially successful and people interpret it as a struggle.

Revenge will be on the mind of the Tide and will win this one going away: BAMA 38 Ole Missy 17. BDS will be rocking! Let's see how Mr. Kelly handles that!

Ut-Martin playing Bethel is worse than Ole Miss playing UT-Martin. Bethel is an NAIA program, which is below NCAA Division III, which is below NCAA Division II, which is below NCAA Division 1AA (UT-Martin), which is below NCAA Division 1A (Ole Miss).

I'd say NAIA is between D-II and D-III. D-II's football teams have 36 scholarships in total to award (many like UNA provide partials and make up much of the difference with need-based packages); NAIA programs have 24 to award, but I believe their limitations may only allow merit-based scholarships to not count toward the 24 (a huge difference). D-III's of course have no athletic scholarships and would rely solely on need- and merit-based assistance. We visited University of the South this summer and they said their average financial aid award was $29,000 per student (out of a total of $52,000 in costs per year). Some students get a full ride, and some pay the full amount.

Regarding UNA, Bobby Wallace was a master of using need-based assistance to supplement his limited scholarships, and they ruled D-II for several years in the 90's. They expressly told their high school network that they wanted poor kids so they could get Pell Grants and such to limit the amount of athletic award per player. I don't know if that's still legal - if not, I guess they'd have to call it a Charley Pell Grant.

Tim

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the exact numbers on the scholarships. I just assumed the NAIA was below the NCAA Divisions. My nephew got a full ride scholarship at Bethel this Summer and is being red-shirted this season.

Congrats on his full ride. There are some really good NAIA programs that at their peak could've been competitive w/D-II teams. I remember Carson-Newman out of east TN used to be pretty good.

If I'm not mistaken, the scholarship total in many of the minor sports is often limited by what a school is willing to award, taking Title IX into account and adjusting accordingly. So, for instance, there are NAIA schools that have heavily funded cross country teams loaded with top tier talent (often Kenyan) that otherwise might struggle in the classrooms of DI schools. Graduation rates have, in the past, not been monitored for these sports either. There have been NAIA schools in the past that could compete and sometimes dominate most DI schools.

I could see that in baseball if they are not limited to 11.7 scholarships. Especially with Caribbean players.

Starting to sound like Tunsil's college days could be over with based on some stuff I've read/heard. The result will cause Ole Miss to shift things around on the offensive line RT moving to LT and a redshirt freshman taking the RT spot...not to mention they also have a frost at OG. Defensive line could be feasting on Swag Kelly.

Also, Ole Miss DB Tee Shepard is out for the first half due to targeting call from the previous game.

Is this different than what they used the first two games on the OL? Just wondering.
