🏈 Lines of Scrimmage will determine our fate

I mentioned a few weeks ago that our lines both, offensive and defensive, looked like they didnt have any fire in their belly but they have since done a 180.

The last two weeks they have had a mean streak and have been in beast mode. The difference this has made in our teams performance has been apparent. Normally, you hear that this is a line of scrimmage game from people who know what they are talking about but this year for us it is more important than ever as evedinced by our play so far.

If our O-line can continue to finish blocks with aggression and finish the season doing it every play of every game then our offense will be almost unstoppable barring major injury bug.

If our d-line can cantinue to pressure the Qb and stuff the run game then it will allow our crazy fast lb's and talented defensive backfield to be ballhawks and turn pressure into points.

I am usually a very cautious fan when it comes to predictions but if our lines play as they have I dont believe there is anyone who can play with us this year. We are deeper and more talneted at our offensive skill positions than i can remember. We are as talented and faster than i can remember any defense that we have had in the middle lb and db's.

So if our lines can keep their maintain their "competitive spirit" as Saban says then i believe we can win it all again this year. I beleive Saban knows it too which why he has been very irratable lately with everyone.. he is trying to keep them mentally where they are.

I think that the OL play just shows the importance of getting to gel together on the field. The more reps they have gotten, the better they have gotten. Coach Key has done a great job of getting those guys prepared! He also rides those young guys hard and loves em hard too, so they play hard for him. I think that is why we aren't seeing such a drop off between our 1's and 2's.
DL needs to get healthy and stay healthy. We may not get the pass rush out of our front like last year, but we are still getting solid run play from them. Again, reps and gaining that experience!!!

I happen to agree with @Destiny's Child on this. I'm of the thought that the player's only meeting Dion-Hamilton spoke of really got this team into gear. it has been a night and day difference. You could clearly see our offense was better than the competition during the first three games, but the last two have been leaps and bounds different, and in a better way. I honestly feel like our offense is like the Falcons' where we can score at any moment we want (except against Buffalo on the 10 yard line with 10 seconds left), and it's going to take a Herculean effort to stop us for four quarters. The points in every quarter of every game clearly shows our guys can perform, and if we can maintain that we will not be beat.

I still think our defensive line needs some work as a veteran quarterback with any sort of mobility can gash us, but I also think we are getting that fixed after all of the injuries we've had. Clemson's defense is salty, and very good, but I think we could control their offense and their quarterback. Oklahoma is a tough team, but if we focused on stopping Baker Mayfield, I just don't think they have the depth and talent to keep up. Penn State has some players, but I just feel like they don't have the depth outside of Barkley. McSorely can be bottled up. Ohio State has the talent, but they seem to be missing a piece in my mind and haven't really put it together for a complete game against an opponent of note in like two years to me.

It's going to be a fun ride this season and I hope we continue to play hard and take it all the way to hoisting the trophy in January.

And @TerryP , don't rub that in. I would kill to be on the water in Charleston.

Saban ball 101.

His Championship teams have had dominant line play. The '10 team had the most offensive skill talent and the 2015 team set all the offensive records... Both teams lost numerous games due to poor offensive line play.

Long story short if Saban is "depending" on the QB to make plays, his system malfunctions. If the run game is established, the rest falls into place. Next most important piece is the pass rush... Sacks and pressure makes the secondary much better (pass protection no longer as important with Jalen in the mix). If QB's have time you see PI calls, great catches, other issues that come along with our DB's not turning their head around against good skill players.

If the OL continues to improve I will be interested to see how close Daboll will keep it to the vest. Not in reference to bad teams... But the 2-3 close games from here on out. I never felt that Kiffin would commit to the run game regardless of production... And I know Saban ultimately calls the shots, but will things change with Daboll? Hopefully we find out if the line keeps progressing.

The OL and DL are, imo, the most important recruits we go after. I know it takes all the other players to make a complete team but it is vital to be successful at the level we want / expect to have a cohesive OL and DL. So far so good and if we can stay / get everyone healthy, we "ain't seen nothing yet."

Have you guys saw that when the UGA defense have a good play, that spike shoulder pad go on? Like the belt Bama has?

The prop also has Savage written on it. V. Cowan started the 'savages want to play with savages' tag line while he was recruiting for Bama. I guess with Kirby there, only natural that they copying Bama a lot. Not a bad idea I would say.

I think Reuben Foster started that when he began hosting recruits. It may have even been said to him if I remember hearing that correctly a few years ago. But yes, now everyone uses that term. They all copied us with a "prize" if you get a turnover, see the spiked shoulder pads and Miami's Run DMC type gold chain with U logo on it. Alabama starts the trends and others start using it. I jumped all over my family when they started blabbering about "savages" and their recruiting message. Told them they were a few years late to that party.
