I think it is great. Just fits right in with the little brother syndrome that they have. I used to copy my big brother too when I was 5. If our band copied a song like that from them (or a cheer), I'd be highly embarrassed.

Theyll be hearing this all year as long as I'm alive.

This may seem as un-patriotic as burning a flag around here but I think the song is tacky as hell anyway. Sorry but it seems like pretty poor sportsmanship

I agree, it's tacky. But many old football traditions are if you think about.

Putting butt paper on trees is pretty stupid too. Butt paper has chemicals...and it's killing the trees. God made the trees, and a football tradition is killing them.

That is just as tacky...if not more so.

A little bit of a stretch there if you are serious. I figured my response would fan some flames but just like running up the score (which the BCS causes) I just find it tacky

any time you have a rival they are going to do everything they can to put you down. Stealing songs, making slogans "fear the thumb" "fear, 6 is near", and just bashing in general. Although some do take it to extreme. It's what makes football fun in my opinion. All about bragging rights. You talk your team up as much as possible, and hope they can cash the check. Then when they do you let your rival remember it for the rest of the year.

I'm dead serious. Singing Rammer Jammer (a simple song) is not as bad as killing trees.

And yes, it has been proven that years of toilet paper is killing those trees in Auburn. Toilet paper wasn't made to hang on trees.

I do understand your point. Rammer Jammer is rather corny, but it's part of the crimson tradition...so RTR!!!

I don't think we have ever won a NC during a season when we did Rammer Jammer...I may be wrong, but I know that it is a modern era cheer, and I think it had been banned in 1992. Of course, as most know, it is a copy of Hotty-Toddy, brought to UA by Dr. Fergesun, who was the band director at Ole Miss. I think it started around the time Bryant retired.

RJ is kind of a hot button topic. When you talk about banning it, people get up in arms...but it is not a Bryant era cheer, and I know it was banned in the 80's & 90's for a while. Of course the pregame "we're gonna beat..." RJ was done away with entirely, just a few years ago.

Just my opinion...no need to argue...but my opinion is that RJ and the angry elephant need to pass into obscurity. The angry elephant is a Bockrath/DuBose era emblem. The elephant stepping through the A, and the Bryant A, are better. The angry elephant looks like something off of a box of captain crunch.

Others are entitled to their opinions, but I am almost 100% positive we never did Rammer Jammer in a season we were national champions. Championships are tradition...RJ is a controversial cheer.

Aubrun deserves it, even if some consider it tacky or whatever.

It is just a cheer anyway. You know what is tacky...having shirts with we beat you 6 years in row, something money cant buy( yes they claim we bought all our NC)....I could go on and on(literally) with all the Barner shirts and bumper stickers I see around here about how much they hate Bama. Do you think this started because our fans cheer Rammer Jammer, or the fact they are ***holes about it?

If RJ is only used for special occasions...this game is one of them.

I have been wondering for quite some time what Rammer Jammer. Until joining this forum, I had never heard of it.

Football is sometimes a problematic hobby for me. On the one hand, there's no doubt the toughness appeals to me. I like to see our team play with that old-fashioned gritty style that I associate with American football. On the other hand, when the theme of strength and endurance turns into one of anger, malice, and hatred, it bothers me.

Watching the videos posted as part of this thread, I was put off. I stopped them without watching until the end. Sure, I want to win every game. I want my team to excel, to finish first, to be the champions. But a use of words that describes it as contest is where I stop. I try not to talk about it as "beating Auburn" or "kicking their butt" and certainly not as "beating the heck/living daylights/crap" out of them.

Note: I'm not perfect. I get heated as much as the next person. But whenever I do, I usually think about it later and ask myself, "Would I want my 12-yr-old son to overhear me say that stuff? Is that setting a good example for him?" And my answer for myself is always "no" and "no."

I realize lots of people with will read my post and decide it's Greek. That's ok. They go the games or the sports bars with big screen tvs and support the team their way. I buy lots of Bama merchandise (instead of buying tickets) and cheer them on in the privacy of my home in a way I wouldn't mind my grandma hearing. Everyone gets to pick the flavor they like best.

Lol!! I love it. 9/10

I remember singing Rammer Jammer all the way from our Upper Deck seats at the Super Dome to out of the stadium.

If you don't like the song, don't sing it.

Rammer Jammer has been around since the early sixties at least.

No offense, but I can guarantee without a shadow of a doubt, you that you are wrong.

Dr. James Ferguson, former director of the Ole Miss band, is the one who invented it. He was hired at Alabama in 1971 and was here until 1983. It was/is a knock off of Hotty-Toddy.

Go watch any Bryant era game. We did not do it when Bryant was on the sideline. We would not have done it when he was on the sideline.

Rammer Jammer is about 25 years old, and we probably only did it 15 of those 25 years. "Tradition it aint."

#1- THere are a hell of a lot more trees being killed everyday than the few at Toomer's corner.

#2- Again, why do you guys care if we roll some trees in Auburn. It shouldn't bother you, it's not like we are up in Tuscaloosa killing your trees, then you would certainly have something to bitch about.

#3- If we keep going in the direction we are headed, it's going to take years to get enough wins to do the trees any more damage.

Yes, but all trees aren't worshiped as God's as the AuNecks worship the Tumor Corner trees.

Yet, you bitch about 'Bama fans who bring a roll of crap paper and a detergent box to a game. Quit being a sanctiomonious AuNeck twit. You are as transparent as PineBox's ears are thick.

#3- If we keep going in the direction we are headed, it's going to take years to get enough wins to do the trees any more damage.

It is an ignorant tradition that AuNecks created. You apparently don't know much about it, but you love talking about it. You don't know anything about the trees dying, yet you can't stop talking about them.

You are the typical AuNeck. Ignorant, yet persistent as a war tiger.
