šŸ“” Lane Kiffin named head football coach at Ole Miss

Lane's biggest problem in his career has been keeping his mind in the right place, right time, with the right areas focused upon. That pin point accuracy kind of mental drive. If he's able to keep things in their proper order, he's got a good chance at doing well there.

With all of these stories circulating about Arkansas, now Ole Miss, he has kept his focus as well as his teams' on point today. They're walking all over UAB.

He's certainly embarrassing Bill Clark and I can't count the number of times I've seen him lauded as the next best thing. I think it was Forde making a comment about him mid-week. One of his ilk.

With Lane Kiffin all but on his way to Oxford to become the next head coach of Ole Miss, a former coach of the Rebels and current coach of a team likely on its way to the College Football Playoff reportedly advised him against taking the job.

According to Parish Alford ot the Daily Journal, Ed Orgeron advised Kiffin, his close friend, against leaving FAU for Ole Miss. Both are close from their days on USC’s staff under Pete Carroll from 2001-2004.

Alford writes:

ā€œDaily Journal sources said Orgeron told Kiffin a certain "fit" was required to coach at Ole Miss, and he didn't think his long-time friend had that fit.ā€

In three seasons as head coach at Ole Miss from 2005-2007, Orgeron went 10-25, including a 3-21 mark in SEC play.

Kiffin will take over for Matt Luke, who Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter fired last weekend after going 15-21 over three seasons, including a 6-18 record in SEC play.

Kiffin has been a head coach four times in his career. The first time was in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders (2007-08). The Raiders fired Kiffin, and the coach then took over the Tennessee Volunteers program. He would spend just one season with the Volunteers, unceremoniously departing for the USC Trojans coaching job. Kiffin spent three seasons and five games at USC (2010-13) before he was fired by the program. That led to Alabama coach Nick Saban hiring Kiffin as the team's offensive coordinator.

Kiffin left Alabama for the Florida Atlantic job prior to the 2017 season. Through three seasons, the coach has a 25–13 record at Florida Atlantic, including two appearances in the Conference USA Championship game. The Owls demolished UAB in the conference title game today.

"I'm really happy here, Paul, and all coaches say that, but you know I'm not one to just give coach speak," Kiffin told Paul Finebaum during an interview in October.. "As you get older, I think you value different things. And so when you're younger, a lot of times you're chasing money and titles — how big is the job? — and all those things.

"So I'm very happy here. I think we've gotten something pretty neat going on here with ... 24 wins or something like that in three seasons and they had (three) three-win seasons before (from 2014-16).

"So a lot of really good young players, so I'm very happy here and it's a great place to live. As you get older, you kind of appreciate where you live, too."

Kiffin can say he was happy in Boca Raton, and who wouldn’t be, but by leaving for Ole Miss, he gets another shot to coach in what many consider the premier conference in college football.

Did Ole Miss successfully step in front of Arkansas to land Lane Kiffin as its next head coach?

That appears to be the case as several outlets reported on Friday that Kiffin is heading to Oxford with an expected announcement coming this weekend.

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum had this to say.

ā€œI think it’s a spectacular hire,ā€ Finebaum said during Saturday morning's SportsCenter appearance, live from Atlanta. "Lane Kiffin has a a lot of experience. We forget he’s had four head coaching jobs, one in the NFL and three in college ball. Listen, I think he is prepared of this job. He was really sent to purgatory after leaving Nick Saban a couple years ago and has done a really good job at FAU off the radar.

A lot of people want to conjure up things about the past, but I know Lane Kiffin very well and he’s got a plan. The key will be his coaching staff. Keep your eye on what some of his first moves will be. I'm willing to predict they will surprise and put a little bit of fear in the SEC. I think Lane Kiffin is for real at Ole Miss.ā€

Kiffin is coaching FAU in the Conference-USA Championship Game on Saturday and has recorded a 25-13 record with the Owls over three seasons since leaving Alabama as its offensive coordinator following the 2016 season.

Ole Miss has a deal in place with Kiffin to become the school's next football coach, according to a report from Football Scoop. Ole Miss fired former head coach Matt Luke on Sunday.

"After evaluating the overall trajectory of our football program, we did not see enough momentum on the field and determined a change is necessary in order for our student-athletes to compete at the highest level," Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said in a statement to announce Luke's firing earlier this week. "While improvements were evident in certain aspects of the program, we are judged ultimately by our record, and, unfortunately, we did not meet the standard of success that we expect from our program. We will always be grateful to Coach Luke for his leadership, particularly from a recruiting, academic and overall culture standpoint. At the same time, winning is important, and we know that we can compete for championships at Ole Miss.

"A search is underway to find a new head coach who can build a complete program that attracts top talent, develops them as young men and sustains a winning mentality. We will be looking for the leadership, energy and commitment to excellence necessary to compete in the Southeastern Conference and galvanize our passionate fan base."

Kiffin previously coached in the SEC at Tennessee in 2009. He led the Vols for one season before landing the gig at USC.

Yeah he would likely at least make a call to Sark. Would impact his competition so in his mind win win.

He may also try and get the QB we have coming to bama to go to Ole Miss. All is far in love and recruiting until the recruit signs on the dotted line.
