Well, one thing that stood out to me was the report that I heard on the radio yesterday was that Kiffin was offering Cochran an "on-the-field coaching role," which made no sense.

Yes it weakens Bama but how does it help Ole Miss? You're gonna hire Cochran to what on the field, exactly? Coach a position he's never coached before? From Cochran's standpoint why would that make sense either? He is a strength coach and has been so for what, 15 years? Has he had some secret desire to coach on the field despite never pursuing that? Money is certainly not a thing because Alabama would pay him whatever Ole Miss could offer and then some.

Best I could come up with - "News splash and weakens Bama". Do not disagree from Cochrans standpoint it makes sense. From Kiffen if he gets in the news and it weakens bama thats good for him. If it did not work out on the field damage has already been done. Now surely Cochran is smarter than this however to be used by such tactics.

The original rumor, as I heard it, was the Cochran hire would be as special teams coordinator for Lane. Along with that rumor it was said that Saban had already hired Wilson Love as Cochran's replacement.

You know enough to know it's not even remotely close.

Look at it this way. Do you think Ole Miss is going to play $600K+ for a special teams coordinator? It'll take that to pull him away just from a salary standpoint.

You may be underestimating the value the Ole Miss program would see in the marketing that Cochran leaving Bama to go to Oxford would bring. Heck if they really wanted to they could give him some kind of other title so they could drive the salary $$$'s up.

Not saying this would happen but sometimes the value is driven by other things. Sometimes people also just want a change.

As I stated before I think Cochran is a smart dude so hopefully he would see through all this. Now if he really is looking for a change (pure speculation) he would look for the best opportunity and I personally could never see that being at Ole Miss.

It's an understanding of the people and personalities involved. Wilson Love is locked in with Lane as much as guys like Todd Bates are locked in with Dabo. There wasn't going to be another S&C coach outside of Love.

Part of a subscription service so I could only read a little bit of it. This is where you get to see the real Kiffin. I was always weary of him when he was at Bama but he needed Saban so for the most part he stayed in line until he did not think he needed him any longer. He may be upset about what Saban did but he is blind to his part in it. Do your job the way you should and you will not get replaced. Come on own your own crap Kiffin.
