šŸˆ Kiffin turned down UCLA OC offer days before Title game.

The logic I'm hearing that makes some sense is that if you want to become a NFL HC, NFL OC is faster path than college OC.

There is no logic behind that move. He's getting noticed again by his offenses, his play calling, etc ... and he's going to step out of the spotlight under Kelly? Kelly calling the plays ... Kelly's system ... and that benefits Kiffin's resume, how?

Dennis Dodd is a chode. I'll need a more reliable source.

I said this in another thread, I'll say it again here, and I'll say it again in the future.

Dodd doesn't know shit about Alabama football, coaching personnel decisions made in college football, college football in the SE US ...

Using the word source and Dodd in the same thought ... you're being too kind.

Weren't they renting in Mountain Brook?

The last time this came up, which was about a year ago, they did have a place there. There's a lot of talk about his family living on the West Coast, but never a mention he sold his two properties there.

It's my understanding they have property in Tampa Bay now as well. In fact, there's really no telling how many places they might have. It's not like he's hurting for money.

How many coordinators have jumped from college to the NFL to become HC? Now how many NFL coordinators are hired as HC each season? I don't see Kiffin getting hired directly from Alabama as a NFL HC even if he breaths the same air as Saban. However, if he takes a job as OC in NFL and team has success, he could get an opportunity sooner, just my opinion of course. This assumes that the NFL is Kiffin's end game. I do agree that OC with Chip Kelly may not be ideal since CK would be seen as the mind behind the offense regardless of Kiffin's contributions.

If Kiffin wants to be a HC again (or a successful HC), going to work under Chip Kelly isn't the answer in my opinion. I really don't get all the noise about Chip Kelly, I never have. Sure he's been good enough to land a few HC jobs, remind me again how many awards and meaningful post season games he's won again at Oregon and Philly. He's a bit over rated in my opinion.

I understand exactly what you're saying here, and I can't completely disagree with you. When it comes to Kiffin, we have to throw those first two questions out because he's been a NFL head coach, he's been a head coach at two colleges.

With me, coaching acumen has never been a question when it comes to Kiffin. It's always been his attitude—as understandable as it is when thought about. When he was hired I beat the hell out of the "look at the numbers" drum.

Again, likely so.

At the top of the page I should have said there's no logic behind this move instead of that move.

BTW, this just dawned on me and I think we can chalk it up to another logic test.

Assuming Kiffin wants to be a NFL HC ...

As the head coach of Oakland, he was handcuffed by Davis when it came to personnel moves, right? So, that aspect of the game at that level isn't something Kiffin has been exposed to ... well, exposed to someone who was successful with personnel, right?

Would hitching your ride with Kelly be a good learning experience, a position where you could see personnel moves done correctly? How would the OC with Kelly help him?

Going back to this ...

Now makes sense for a coordinator hire for Kelly ... and, even though he covers the NFL, I'd trust Ian's sources a HELL OF A LOT more than anything Dodd said.
