I've always felt Steele was a good recruiter and an OK DC... he might due well at auburn as they need recruitment. Any idea who the position coaches are? That is where I think auburn is hurthing... no development of players...

LSU D was a little better than average, but didn't seem to be anything special. In several games, they gave up more points than it seems they should have....
This is not a scary hire as far as Bama is concerned.

This, Steeles D was not impressive this year on a team where talent was not the issue.

I only looked back to 2008, but their D had its worst total D in the period. Picking up where he left off at Clemson, his secondary was the sore thumb giving up more yds per game with the worst pass Def efficiency rating in the period I looked at. All of which contributed to LSUs worst scoring D since 2008.

LSU ranked 5th in the SEC defensively this year. (according to ESPN)

While he has lots of accolades as a recruiter, according to @TerryP, Steele has gotten to be like Mack Brown's last few years at Texas. He would rather recruit from the comfort of his office as opposed to tear up the roads and go into kids homes.

Recruiter needs to be changed to evaluator. That's not my words, but those of someone who has coached with him and it's also the opinion of players under his tutelage.
