Alabama fans are waking up to some unfortunate news Saturday morning. Crimson Tide running back Kenyan Drake was reportedly arrested early this morning for what the Tuscaloosa County Sheriffā€™s Office is calling ā€œObstructing Government Operationsā€. We donā€™t have any details on what allegedly occurred, but Drake was booked in the county jail and had a mugshot taken. Drakeā€™s bond was set at $1,000.

$1000 seems pretty low. Sounds like he told a cop to "-- off" or something and got arrested for it.

Section 13A-10-2 - Obstructing governmental operations.

(a) A person commits the crime of obstructing governmental operations if, by means of intimidation, physical force or interference or by any other independently unlawful act, he:
(1) Intentionally obstructs, impairs or hinders the administration of law or other governmental function; or
(2) Intentionally prevents a public servant from performing a governmental function.
(b) This section does not apply to the obstruction, impairment or hindrance of the making of an arrest.
(c) Obstructing governmental operations is a Class A misdemeanor.
(Acts 1977, No. 607, p. 812, Ā§4505.)
 
This is very disappointing. I've always enjoyed watching Drake's explosive runs. He's a guy who can take it to the house from any place on the field. But, seemingly the "house" that he needs to be concerned about most is Saban's doghouse. I wonder whether Drake can get playing time again - or whether he should - after this latest incident.

University of Alabama running back Kenyan Drake was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of obstructing government operations early Saturday morning.

The junior from Powder Springs, Ga., ignored police orders to stay away from a crime scene, according to Tuscaloosa Police.

Drake was at the downtown Temerson Square area around 1 a.m. Saturday when a Tuscaloosa Police officer shot at a man they witnessed shooting another man, said Tuscaloosa Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Blankley.

Police immediately secured the area of the parking lot with crime scene tape.

"His car was in the crime scene area, and he wanted to get to it," Blankley said. "He went under the crime scene tape and tried to get to it anyway."

Officers stopped Drake before he made it to his vehicle and handcuffed him, Blankley said. He was charged with obstructing governmental operations and was being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail as of 10 a.m. with bond set at $1,000 for the misdemeanor charge.

Drake rushed for 273 yards and five touchdowns his freshman season and 694 yards and eight touchdowns his sophomore season.

Agreed. Going under crime tape to see a crime scene is pretty low on the list of criminal acts. Not excusing what he did in the least, but he doesn't deserve to be kicked off the team for it.
 
Guys, seriously, you think that's all there is to the story? That he went under police tape? He was at a crime scene at 1:00 a.m. where police shot a man who was shooting another man. Why did he have to get to the vehicle in such an expeditious manner?

Are we going to simply side with someone because he's a Bama football player?

How many times have you been on the scene of a police shooting and had to move your car? Yeah, me neither.

There were a lot of cars in the parking lot that were blocked off, and were going to be blocked off for some time. Maybe he thought he could leave or maybe he wanted to get stuff out of his car and get a ride with someone else... regardless, he ignored the officer(s) warnings and got arrested. That's pretty much all there is to it.

And I'm not defending him, what he did was dumb, and he should have been arrested. I guess if there is a bright side here, it's that he didn't resist. :(
 
While I don't know all the specifics of the event, based on what I've read he has nobody to blame for what comes of this. The cops flat out told him not to and he did it anyways (from time to time, I have been known to do what I want regardless of the consequences...so I can related). All Kenyan's incidents have been minor, but when added up could tell a different story....just depends on who's reading that book.

I don't see this as a big deal. I imagine he'll certainly get extra work from the coaching staff.

I feel like the last thing I would want to do if I was involved in a crime scene is draw attention to myself. Going to the scene and starting trouble with the cops isn't exactly a great way to quietly flee the scene.

But who knows. I hope it's nothing more serious than simple disobedience.

Yeah your opinion is not popular because to be honest, and I mean no disrespect, but it comes off very, very ignorant. So you think the cops arrested him for going under the police tape when he was told not to but thats not really the reason? You are very heavily implied that he was involved in the shooting, you can deny it but you know thats what you are implying. So Tuscaloosa cops covered it up then? Then just arrested for something stupid? There were ALOT of cars that were blocked off because those cars were parked where the incident happened. Hes the only one that got arrested because he was the only one dumb enough to think he could just do what he wanted, like an entitled 20 year old star football player.
 
You know damn well that if any one of us wanted to get at our vehicle we would have done the same thing! I have been threatened before just because I didn't do what an Alabama state trooper told me to do quick enough and he pulled his gun and kicked the side of my car door. I took them to court and they had to repair the damege he did to my door. Maybe KD should have waited but some cops have a "greater than thou mentality" and you can't even reason with them. I doubt he'll be in the dog house for very long over this.
