🏈 Kendall Sheffield; MIA

So what's the cutoff as far as a transfer to where he can actually enroll and sit out his year? Considering school is starting everywhere except Quarter system schools, how does it work?

Pretty sure it's just before each school plays an actual game. Educated guess... But I believe that relates tof the athletes actual eligibility of 5 years to play 4 in seasons.

He's gonna have to deal with the academic calendar, since we're talking about a student athlete.

UA starts tomorrow and last day to drop is a week from tomorrow. Not sure what his options would be at this point, depends on where he wants to go and what their calendar looks like.

The lesson here is that when you think you're really deep in a position, think again. I remember thinking how stacked we were at the DB position earlier this year. I failed to consider that some of these guys weren't going to like getting passed over, especially when they were getting praise the previous year.

I'd like to see a stat that gives the success percentage of the kids that transfers from us. Phillip Ely, Dee Hart are the only two I can think of that even started for the schools they transferred too.

More importantly, I can't think of a player that came back to bite us in the butt on the field. Maybe on some level Corey Grant of barn fame. But by transferring when he did, I believe he lost out on our 2011 NC and he just missed out on the barn's 2010 title. So for all the players on both teams that have the rings, I don't believe he got his either way. Punishment enough.

I know Georgia started last Thursday, atleast my sister did, so I imagine he's getting real close to missing some options.

Alabama defensive back Kendall Sheffield (11) runs drills at practice during the University of Alabama Fall Camp at the indoor practice facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.

For the previous three practices, redshirt freshman Kendall Sheffield has not been with the team.

For a day rumors and innuendo spread about the whereabouts of the 6-foot, 188-pound defensive back and about his status with the team. Following Tuesday’s practice, the last of fall camp (school begins Wednesday), UA head coach Nick Saban addressed the Missouri City, Texas product and his absence from the team.

“Kendall Sheffield has not been here for the last couple of days,” Saban said. “I don’t really know what his status is so there’s no need to ask me. We’re happy to have him back. He’s a fine young man. He’s worked hard, he’s made a lot of improvement here.

“We enjoy having him be a part of the team if that’s what he chooses and continue to work with him in a positive way to help him develop academically and athletically.”

Sheffield has not publicly addressed his absence, and with school beginning Wednesday, the countdown for him to return officially begins. The last day to add or drop a class is Aug. 24.

Sheffield was in competition for a prominent role in this year’s defense. He was competing with Anthony Averrett for the team’s third cornerback spot behind Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Sheffield participated in the team’s scrimmage Saturday before being a no show for the two practice Monday and the one Tuesday.

Saban said there is no timetable for Sheffield to return but he’s welcome back at any time.

“We want what’s best for the people on our team. If there’s something we can do to help resolve this from their family’s standpoint, we’re certainly available to do that,” Saban said.

“There’s no pressure from our standpoint. School starts (today). It’s really important that our players develop the right habits, have success in school, that’s what they’re here for, and hopefully he’ll make a decision so he doesn’t get behind from that standpoint.”

Prior to Saturday’s scrimmage, Saban spoke of the importance of getting Sheffield up to speed as quickly as possible

"Kendall Sheffield, I think we just keep trying to work reps, reps, reps, so that he can play his position with a little more naturally instinctive reactions,” he said. “He certainly has a lot of ability and we're certainly trying to bring it out of him in every way we can.

“Right now it's a work in progress and he is making progress. We certainly would like to be able to enhance that with a little better coaching on our part."

With Sheffield at best temporarily gone and at worst gone for good, it creates a depth issue further complicated by Maurice Smith’s previous departure. But that means young players, like Jared Mayden and Shyheim Carter, will see more repetitions. Saban also said the lack of overall depth defensive backs is why the team moved wide receiver Trevon Diggs and linebacker Keaton Anderson to the secondary.

Right, If it counts, I'm thinking Wallace Wade to Duke, maybe? :D

We'll see how Alvin Kamara works out this year - he had a good year last year. Personally, of course, I hope we jack him up really hard, since he transferred to the viles.

Can't help but wonder if our new Defensive Coordinator and Secondary coaches aren't getting along with our players. :headscratch:

Or maybe Jim McElwain has it right when he was told by QB Will Grier, basically play me or I'm gone.
"I will never beg someone to do anything," McElwain said about his meeting with Will Grier. "You've got to have it in your heart. To be successful in anything in life it's got to be a passion, OK."
"And sometimes in life, we all maybe look for, you know, sure things......guarantees, there are no guarantees."

Nick Saban told Kendall Sheffield we want you back, I haven't read where he guaranteed him a starting spot if he does.

CJ Mosley's comments on little brother earning that scholly.

From my senior day to the young bull
@jameflame earning his scholarship last night to the University of Alabama! To all the young men, no matter what your last name is or what reputation you have coming out of high school. Nothing is given to you, you have to earn every stripe that goes to your last name! The @alabamafbl organization and Coach Saban gave my brother a chance to walk on and earn his way and not give it to him just because of what I did. Now it's time to show the world what they been missing! #FlameOn #proudbrother #yeaaaaaaa #mosleyfamily

That's what an Alabama All-American sounds like.

He needs to look at the academic calendar of wherever he wants to go. First he needs to apply and be admitted. Second, he needs to get a class schedule before the cutoff date (every school is different, but it's not a month into classes). He will also have to un-enroll at Alabama. If he attends any classes, the year has started.
