Anthony Averett and some up and coming freshmen much have decided some things for Kendall during Saturday'scrimmage. Just stay away from Georgia.

It may be more than a matter of not being able to wait... just speculation, but I don't think Bama is the "easiest" program to get through and to the NFL With all the talent on the team, I would guess these kids are held to a pretty strict standard when it comes to Academics and Field Practice. A lot of other programs would be welcoming these kids in with open arms and an Easy "Pass" in a lot of areas including Academics. They can go elsewhere an have "more fun" than at Alabama and be held to a lower standard. This is just a guess, but it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out true...

A lot of these kids have been pampered through-out their football career and it may be a difficult adjustment when they get here... that's also not to say that Home sickness and other issues don't influence some of these transfers as it is a pretty strong adjustment in their relatively short life experience.

Color me surprised and the coaches PISSED!!! I didn't expect this after 10-12 practices and a scrimmage. I doubt the coaches expected this either. I've got a relative all ready to jump on the "Pruitt/Ansley isn't worth a damn" bandwagon with the losses of Smith and now Sheffield. I just call him a dipshit and move on. Looks like Mayden, Carter, Knott, Diggs have been better than advertised and Sheffield felt like he was being passed or he could be homesick, parents are idiots, sense of entitlement, or any combination.

Can't say for sure if that's the case here... I thought I remember reading that he had a really good family situation.

The one caveat I will give (or two)... Is that we have no idea what the staff (old and new) have told him.

I can actually appreciate how these kids are learning to game the system... Holding off until right before school starts to transfer. Seeing where they stand before leaving makes perfect sense... Costs them no eligibility. Score a small victory for the student athletes with that loophole.

Was he not mentioned 2-3 days ago as being in the mix during nickel? I want to say he was. That doesn't mean he would be on the bench. Anthony Averett has spent plenty of time there as a 4* and now will get his chance to shine.

Yes he was... I'm just saying from his perspective he thinks he's not playing. Otherwise he wouldn't be leaving.

I mentor teenagers and young adults about the emotional decisions we make in life that can and often alter the course of our life. Most of the time its never the right choice. I wish this young man the best, but he likely just made his journey slightly more difficult. He was in line to play this year and likely start next year. I think all these guys should remember that Alabama is a powerhouse program in the toughest league in the NCAA. If a guy is not ready to handle the pressure and expectations of a winning program, he will not play until such time. College football is unforgiving and losing 2 or more games due to inexperienced players is not an option for CNS or the BAMA brand. Patience is key and if you work at it, they will have the opportunity to succeed professionally, personally and academically. Just my thoughts.

Let's see how all this works out in the end. Then, we can talk about specifics, ya know?

Let me say this. I wish this kid had the attitude of a kid like AA ... WHO he's playing right alongside of.

Some just ain't got it coming into college ... even after a year or two.

I also mentor kids.. In a slightly different capacity including in their transition from high school to college athletics. We always try to find a place that their most likely to be successful at on and off the court. But the bottom line is that the adults at universities are coaching for a career, and they are always going to put their own ability to be successful in front of the kids. So what I'm saying is 99% of the time there is more to these transfers than we know, and many conversations are had between player/coach, player/parent, and parent/coach before this actually happens. Many times (not saying this happened here) a player is told he will be in line for playing time, or is close to being in that rotation, in order to keep a guy for depths purposes or for future playing time, etc.

Just saying that we don't know what's said behind closed doors. And from my experience, its always either a playing time issue or the kid feels deceived or that the staff is no longer trustworthy.

My best guess in this situation is that Sheffield probably had concers going into this camp and probably had conversations regarding a transfer before hand... The staff saw him as a competitive option and obviously wants to keep a kid around for current and future purposes... Seems like they gave him a chance in practice and he couldn't seal the deal. At that point he decided leaving was his best option because he felt like the chance wasn't great enough or he just flat out compete. Either way, there is a long road that leaves to transfers and when coaching changes are involved, particularly with your position coach/recruiting coach, things can change dramatically.
