If it was Mal's decision to promote Tom Roberts to the color position, he really does need to retire. Tom Roberts is like a freakin cheerleader with a microphone. He'll sell out on any stats that Alabama is leading in, even its just by one. I just want to know who made the decision to promote Tom. I would rather Rod Bramblet get the promo over Tom...and that's bad. Anyway, I hope Kenny's AA meetings go well and he confesses to himself that he needs to withdraw from the Liquor Drinkers Association and get back to the booth. I think a year is all I will be able to handle...

I don't know about all THAT. Tom does a good job with what air he has already had. He is no Snake Stabler but he will be ok to fill in for a year.

If that's all he got he got off light.I wouldn't be that lucky.

So what are you saying, that you would've got fired from your job if you got a DUI? What Kenny is doin is good enough. I don't see why everyone's bashing him so hard. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's alright to drink and drive. He was a dumbass for doing it. But I don't agree with him getting fired over it. I know he's Kenny Stabler and all but his DUI has nothing to do with the University of Alabama like everyone says it does. We all know he is a very popular guy and he represents Bama football. I know most of you on here would still keep your jobs if you went out on the weekend and got a DUI. So why push for his firing? It's like we're segregating Stabler. So what he was a great QB at Bama. If he wasn't at work when he was arrested and it didn't affect the performance of his job, then why are people calling for his head?

If I got a DUI, there would be a good chance I would be fired. Adding to it, I would have a very hard time finding a job.

Is one DUI enough for you to call for Stabler to lose his job on the UA broadcast team?

Are two DUIs enough for you to call for Stabler to lose his job on the UA broadcast team? (This is the thus far number of court convictions he has for this offense by the way.)

Are three DUIs enough for you to call for Stabler to lose his job on the UA broadcast team? (This is his number of arrests for this offense by the way.)

Would four DUIs finally be enough for you to call for Stabler to lose his job on the UA broadcast team? Would it take five, or six, or seven DUIs for you to make such a call? Would, God forbid, Stabler have to actually maim or kill someone while driving in a drunken stupor for you to make such a call?

Let's look very closely at your very words: "We all know (Stabler) is a very popular guy and (Stabler) represents Bama football." So, an acknowledged representative of Bama football is a three-time offender of the DUI laws and you do not think that record is sufficient to call for his termination on the broadcast team? So, it is okay for the University of Alabama to in fact condone such illegal and dangerous conduct by overlooking the behavior since it is only Kenny Stabler - and he does a good job as a color man on the football broadcast and he is popular with the fans?

O.K. I understand everything yall are saying. Like I said, I DON'T condone his behavior. I know it looks bad on the school and all. All I'm saying is, why don't the University ORDER him to get help. In some cases, Firing someone would only make it worse for the person with the problem. And I know he brought it on himself but I just feel like we're turning our backs on him too quick. I hope we DO see Snake back.....after he's better that is. JMO RTR. And no I don't smoke. Especially with Jimmy Johns. lol

This is what I have a problem with....

"I am announcing today that I am taking a leave of absence from my position as the color analyst for the University of Alabama for the 2008 season to give me the time to vigorously fight the allegations that have been made against me,'' Stabler said in a statement.

No mention of getting help; no mention of dealing with a problem; no acceptance of any responsibility. That's what I have a problem with. Had he come out and said any of the above I would have been more tolerant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the police wouldn't hand out a DUI without a sobriety test and/or breathalyzer. Call me ignorant, but how do you fight those as Mr. Stabler is planning to do??? ;scr I know a 1st one can be fought but a third?

(emphasis added)
Again, since this is his third offense related to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, would you think it not too quick to respond to a fourth, or fifth, or sixth offense. Just how many times do we have to excuse this habitual offender before you think we have waited an appropriate time to act?

Serious question.

You're not likely to hear any mention of getting help, having a problem or accepting responsibility until after his charges are resolved. He released a written statement which was most likely carefully worded by his attorneys so that nothing can be used against him if he chooses to take his charges all the way to trial. He has the right to have his day in court, he is innocent until proven guilty, he can choose to tell his side, which may differ from the police officer's story, or he can choose not to testify. There are many factors upon which an officer can decide to arrest someone for DUI. It can be his driving, the way he smells, his eyes, and a person can refuse the officer's request for field sobriety tests, blood tests, breath tests. It could be the officer's word against Kenny's. I have no idea what happened there in R'dale. I have not seen enough of the details anywhere to even know what happened. Every charge can be fought. It's a different story whether it can be won. First order of business for Kenny's attorneys is to hope that 11 more just like jocephus sit down in that jury box.

I'm not sure where I read this, but my understanding is that this time Snake refused to take the field sobriety test.

Thanks for that info. BayBear. See, I told you I was ignorant. :)
