It is being talked about on radio in Tuscaloosa that he will take at least a year off from his radio duties.

Kenny is a very likeable on the air personality, and his knowledge of football adds a lot to the broadcasts. I hope that he gets his life back in order and can return to the booth.

No one loves Alabama any more than Tom Roberts, but he is the pits as an analyst.

While I think it is a good year for Kenny to takte at least a year off, I hate the fact that Tom Roberts will be doing color.

Between Eli and Tom, Alabama will have the worst broadcast team in the country. I'd almost prefer to listen to the 2 Daves on JP (or Licoln or Raycom or wht ever the hell they are now) than I would Eli and Tom Roberts.

Why couldn't they have promoted Kraus to the booth? Or called Barker or Watts? Now we'll have someone doing play by play that if you're not watching the game while he cals it, you have no idea what's happenning, matched with someone who's a bore and doesn't know the game that well.

I agree. Roger Shultz would be my choice, but Tyler Watts or Barry Krauss would be ok as well, IMO. It is a shame Kines isn't available.

Roger Shultz would be the perfect choice. The guy knows football, Loves Alabama, is very good on the radio, and since he's lost all that weight, him and Eli would fit in the booth together.

:D

i'm still pulling for the younger guy that does play by play for the basketball games to be the announcer for Bama football. i think his name is Chris Stewart?

I like Chris too, but I'm afraid he'll move on to somewhere else before he's able to pry the play-by-play mic out of Eli's cold, dead hand.

If it was Mal's decision to promote Tom Roberts to the color position, he really does need to retire. Tom Roberts is like a freakin cheerleader with a microphone. He'll sell out on any stats that Alabama is leading in, even its just by one. I just want to know who made the decision to promote Tom. I would rather Rod Bramblet get the promo over Tom...and that's bad. Anyway, I hope Kenny's AA meetings go well and he confesses to himself that he needs to withdraw from the Liquor Drinkers Association and get back to the booth. I think a year is all I will be able to handle...

Like every other decision Mal makes, this one is the easy and safe choice - and the WRONG one.

Moore, in my opinion, made this decision - or approved the decision of someone else - to instill Roberts in this spot in an effort to more easily allow his long-time friend and golfing buddy Stabler slide back into the job in 2009 (if Stabler somehow clears his name from a THIRD DUI and only carries the stigma of TWO DUI convictions - like that is really any better). If Moore put someone like Shultz, or Barker, or Chris Stewart into the job and they did a good or great job, then Moore would have a much harder time justifying removing the new guy (and going back to the tired old past - or tradition, of filling every job with someone once touched by Coach Bryant).

There is a reason Roberts was fired from the job as color analyst for the basketball broadcast team - and that is Roberts is more dull than paint drying or grass growing.

Mal Moore is slowly killing our athletic department. Yes, he raised a lot of money (at a time might I remind you when the economy was flourishing and contributions to all programs were flowing freely) and built some impressive buildings. But, PEOPLE lead and inspire and win things, not bricks-and-motar or concrete-and-steel. Moore's track record on hiring people is just downright pathetic (Saban the exception, but Saban is the FOURTH head football coach Moore has had to hire in roughly ten years - not a good record to use as a defense). This hire is far below most coaching hires, but it is indicative of Moore's lack of vision and ability to recognize our true needs.

Mal Moore is really driving me away from following Alabama football and athletics - and the university in general (if Moore's retention and promotion is an example of how broader departmental heads are managed). And as a result, my children are losing interest in pursuing any interest in attending UA or competing on an athletic team there. I can follow and support a program that does not win as frequently as I desire, but I have a hard time supporting a program lead by incompetence but refuses to address the lack of leadership and make the necessary changes. If they don't care, why should I?

Does not mean I love my alma mater less, I just cannot justify pouring my money or emotions down a black hole.

Gator as usual brought it strong in this post ;sal

If/when Mal steps down, who would you like to see come in as AD?

I know it wouldn't get us away from Bryant men (which isn't a bad thing of itself) but I'd love to see us go after Ozzie Newsome for this post.

Newsome would not bother me because his assumption of the job would be because he would have a long track record of accomplishment and achievement in a job even more demanding that our AD position.

The fact he once played for Coach Bryant would be far less important than his record as the GM for the Ravens.

I have NO problem with an alum being given consideration for any job at UA. But the mere fact they once worked for, played for, or knew Coach Bryant 25-, or 30-, or 35-years ago is much less important to me than what they have accomplished on their own and a demonstrated record of success in progressively more responsible jobs in the 35-, or 30-, or 25-years they since their connection to Coach Bryant.

Newsome fits that bill. Mal Moore does not.

Hell, Moore does not even have the mental courage to fire someone with two DUI CONVICTIONS and a third most likely forthcoming. Moore should not have to wait until Stabler resolves his current issue to make a move, but Moore just cannot do it. It is nice and commendable that Moore wants to stand by his personal friend, but Moore is giving the stamp of approval of THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA by allowing Stabler to call the shots on how and when the business relationship will end. And frankly, Dr. Witt deserves as much blame in this issue as does Moore.

I have stated earlier (here or not I am not sure), but Moore can fire Stabler and send a message that UA does not condone such a pattern of illegal and reckless behavior, and still stand four-square with Stabler as a personal friend until the end of time.

I am really irate at the message our administration is showing in this problem. This is about as easy a decision one can have in the matter of personnel, and we cannot even come close to getting this right. No wonder we cannot make a change in a head coaching position until a third-grader knows something must be done.

I think my first choice would be Gene Hallman. I like Ozzie and all, but he's been out of college football to long. In todays world, I think and AD needs to be more of a business man than just a former coach/player. Ozzie fits the bill as an administrator, but his experience is in running a pro football team, not a college athletic dept. Another thing I'd be concerned with Ozzie in charge would be he is to close to the GOB network. Not that I think anyone would be able to pull Ozzie's strings, it would just be something that worried me.

He is the founder of UA Gameday. He also runs the Bruno's golf Tourney. HE used to work in the UA AD, and I think he was mentioned for the AD job before it was given to Mal.

Very smart man, has been involved college athletics for a long time, and knows how to run a business.
