🏈 Keith Holcombe Commits To Bama

Supposedly just commuted with Bama after commenting to Miss St a few days ago. I though it was odd that a 4 star from Ttown wasn't getting any attention from Bama that I noticed. 4 Star , 6'3" 210lb Linebacker.

Anyone have any info I'm not seeing here?

Scout lists him as a 2-star and Rivals has him as a 3-star. He doesn't have the kind of offers we're used to seeing but I'm sure the staff sees a lot of upside in his development potential.

I didn't check Scout but all others I looked at has him 3 and 4 star. Either way his video looks good, moves with great speed and kid can put a hit on someone.

Here's one of the main reasons not to pay attention—at least just after a verbal—to Scout or Rivals. Simply put, they are behind the times.

As Matt referred to Holcombe had a really strong showing at camps. And, based on that he's been re-ranked by 247Sports and ESPN. 247 upgraded him just under two weeks ago and if you look at ESPN's player rankings they have him listed as a 4* after an upgrade.

Scout has been slow for years; YEARS! Last year their rankings were adjusted after the football season concluded so you had some sites with kids ranked as a 4* player in August with Scout coming in as a 2* until they re-ranked players in December. (Their system is flawed as I see it as well. Based on their point system, you could have a long snapper ranked as a two star but considered the #1 long snapper in the country. In other words, he's not a kid that is expected to make an impact until his Jr. or Sr. year. However, that #1 ranking on a project player means he's worth (in their point system) as much as a 4* (120 points.)

Until some major changes happen the 247 Composite rankings are hands down the best judgement of talent—and still has its flaws. ESPN is a good measure for team rankings because a lot of their formula is based on filling team needs coupled with talent.

Holcombe does seem to be a bigger and faster Sunseri. He fills the alley pretty quick even though he is listed as an OLB. He would look dynamite as a SS in our system.

Scout is pretty terrible, I haven't paid attention to them since the Cyrus Kouandjio stuff. After he switched from Auburn to Alabama they never even changed Bama's points or ranking, it made no sense at all. I even confronted one of their "scouts"/writers on Twitter about it and his response was pretty much "oh well."
