Justin Thomas's tuff putting round on Sunday cost him a win

It's not really a huge secret that Justin Thomas gift-wrapped the final round of the 2019 Genesis Open to J.B. Holmes. I've seen 3-year-old birthday parties with less wrapping paper and fewer bows than Thomas pulled out of his Titleist golf bag on Sunday afternoon at Riviera when he submitted a 4-over 75 and lost by one to the brawny Holmes.
There's not really any other way to say it. When you take 34 putts in a single round with 19 of them on the final nine holes (including two three-putts and a four-putt), you gave the tournament away. Consider this: Holmes hit seven of nine greens in regulation on the final nine holes while Thomas hit eight. Holmes' average proximity to the hole was 1 foot closer than Thomas' on the back, but his score was two strokes better.

Bama player money won so far this year

JT 2.1 million
Bud Cauley 393K
Trey Mullinax 297K

and

Tiger Woods 181K

I think that headline says it all: an anomaly.
I saw a note the other day about how many rounds JT had played without a three putt. Then, having two along with a quad this weekend...'twas an anomaly. I thought Holmes was done when he plugged his ball coming out of the bunker. But damn...JT yipped it away. His putts were burning the edges...just not getting the roll he normally gets.

You putt for dough, no truer words spoken. The course finally dried out a little on Sunday, and to be fair, pretty much everyone was finding the course a harder pill to swallow. But with his lead, par would have got him home with room to spare.

Next stop Mexico. I'm already wondering how the Spaniards are going to take to Matt Kuchar after some of those comments about how much his caddie is used to making. This time, I think those Kooooooch chants will actually be more of what they usually sound like.

Those comments were the MSM looking to punish Matt...F'Um...if that caddie had been white you would never heard a dayum thing.

What color was he? The only thing causing Kuchar's tone deafness was his greed. It happens to the nicest guys. He was trying to stiff the guy in the greatest tradition of Ebeneezer Scrooge. His biggest mistake, once the deed was made public, was the total indifference he expressed publicly. 3 times he tried to justify why multimillionaires could care less about the little people, like your caddie. By the way, caddie and little people never go over well on the PGA tour. When public opinion, through bad press, went viral and the Kooooos were turning into booooos and catcalls during before and after swings during the tourney this weekend, then and only then did he seem to find his religion.

I just was wondering out loud if claiming to be born-again is gonna sell down Mexico way?

The caddie was all in on the agreement to take the bag before Matt hit the 1st ball...……….and who gives a shite about anything from Mexico? Not me.

No way you're referring to his explanation of the terms they agreed upon before the tournament started...?

I believe the PGA agreement for caddies is a percentage of the winnings. If the golfer wins so goes the pay scale for the dude holding the bag.

There is no agreement, per se. It's a standard, much like tipping your waitress, that varies from caddie to caddie, golfer to golfer. Most of the time they're looking at 8% of winnings, 10% of total. Most of the time (according to the APTC.) Matt said he told the guy if he made it to Sunday he'd get five grand, didn't he?

You're late to the party. He's already done a 180 on this. The fact that he's already sent his caddie 3 different payments over a period of a month on three different occasions, clearly indicates no one is more mixed up with how much you pay your caddie than Matt Kuchar. Especially the agreed upon price between them which he well knew wasn't the going rate for his winnings.

8% or 10% was a long way from 5 thousand dollars when his personal winnings were 1.3 million. Thus the controversy. When the public got a hold of this mess he only made it worse by trying to justify his stinginess. "I'm guessing he's never made more than $200 bucks in a week." That's the part where I openly wonder how his trip to Mexico will go today. Suddenly Mr. Sportsmanship and the people's champ was coming off like King of the Slumlords. Finally after much heckling and popping off he found his way to top out at $50,000. So, don't ask me what a caddie should get, Kuchar has been on tour for almost 20 years and he's still struggling with the concept.

You do understand this caddie was for a one week deal? If you don't like the terms of your deal then don't agree to it before you start your job. The useless left MSM is driving the show. F'um.

Actually, a lot of the pressure wasn't just hecklers on gameday and people shouting at each other on social media. Kuchar’s colleagues on Tour said it was embarrassing and the caddies that make up a critical part of the Tour were outraged at what he tried to pull off. Lacing it as politics as usual is the lazy way out of this one. Kuchar came down with a bad case of social disorder #1, greed.

Listen to him so eloquently attempt to unring this bell:

This is the one time I wish Patrick Reed was in his shoes, because he wouldn't have given a shit what you or social media had to say. Two men shake hands, that's an agreement. You talk about the rich man being greedy, but it sounds like the caddie was being greedy and selfish, especially considering he made well more than his normal rate. Ole boy should have been a little more business savvy before shaking. $1,000 says he never carries another bag in a PGA sanctioned event again. Wanna bet? But whatever, you'll write a page worth of garbage telling everyone how wrong they are and how right you are.

You seem jaded and somewhat disillusioned with our banter. As far as I'm aware, Patrick Reed doesn't have a history of stiffing his caddies.

People shouting on twitter......now that is F impressive.....

Mark Twain...……...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

No. I'm not late to the party on this story. Quite familiar with it actually.

The question I posed was in reference to the overly-dramatic posture of, "3 times he tried to justify why multimillionaires could care less about the little people, like your caddie."

Nah, I was just in a frisky mood this morning and wanted to mess with you a little. No ill intended.

The Patrick Reed comment was a little more about not giving in to all the social media warriors out there that seem to think they know more than those involved. I just don't think he would have cared what folks thought and would not have given in like Kuchar did. I know I wouldn't have after making a deal. Of course I am a giving person, so I probably would have given him $10,000 or $15,000 out of sheer happiness of winning, so there is that too. And so everything is clear, Kuchar didn't stiff his caddie, he gave him $5,000 which was agreed upon. Stiffing would imply $0.
