| FTBL Julio

It may seem to be a small thing, but something that impresses me about him is how quickly after he catches a ball he gets control and puts it away and protects it. I don't think we will see much controversy on whether or Julio had control of a ball, or see many get away from him once he has it.

I think he can be the best in the sec after he is done. He has the speed and great size. There is no corner who can match his size.

So other than paying attention to the blocking assignments of the running backs and receivers what would you guys say to a "rookie" to pay attention to and start learning the game a little better and not just try to follow the ball.

I have tried to start paying attention to the line a little more but with no past football experience I struggle to really understand the intricate parts of the inside line.

In my opinion for the first few years of watching football live, just watch it and enjoy it. The more exposure you get to it the more you will learn. Another good tip would be to watch the Sunday morning NFL shows that break down the plays. They do it in slow motion and with drawings on the screen. That will teach VOLUMES about how plays are broken down.

After you are more comfortable with things, I would shift to watching the O-line and D-line each time. The game begins and ends with line play. Watching the lines is sort of like being a catcher in baseball. From that vantage you are able to see whether or not the play develops and WHY it does or does not.

To be honest, when the game is live I ONLY watch the ball. I'll watch the game two or three times afterwards though, which is when I pay more attention to blocking assignments and such.

As for the intricate parts of the inside line, their job is to play smash mouth football. On a running play, the only time they are not trying to hit the DL as hard as they can is when they are pulling around to seal off a DE. There was a perfect example of that in our first touchdown play saturday night. If I can find a clip of it I'll post it.

I wish everyone would do that. A lot of the stuff you see thrown out on message forums Sunday until they are over the game would never be there if they did.
