It occurs to me that Tulane is EXACTLY the reason I named my weekly column "Trickle Down Economics and Pigskin Prognostication."

Saturday night was a personal encounter with Micro-economics. As talent levels approach true parity, any given team on any given night can give another one fits.

Bama should not have blown Clemson out...but Tulane should not have controlled the LOS against Bama.

Trickle Down.

To clear up my tag situation

i got the tag a couple of weeks after jpw's disaster at starkville. yes it was emotion driven. what other reason would it be? i hate to say it, but i dont believe in him. thats bad i know. hes not my son so i can say that though. i just dont think he is much of a leader. its only an opinion and believe me when i say this I WANT TO BE WRONG ABOUT THIS GUY. i would rather be the laughing stock of a forum with a stupid car tag and have a great football team and qb prove me wrong (run on sentence) than for jpw to continue to be a screw up.

Just back from a leisurely weekend in Bama. Not making it through all 600+ posts, but I did catch this thread.

I took my youngest to this game, and we had a great time watching an exciting ball game. Incredible returns, a punt block for a TD, hard hitting, he enjoyed it all. He was a little confused when a large number of idiots (don't know how many of them, if any, have personalized tags sniping at college players) began rabidly booing after an unsuccessful Bama possession. The speed and agility on display as the crowd turned from supportive to punitive made Javy look like he was running in cement. I was embarrassed by most, but at least there were enough smatterings of Roll Tides and Go Bamas to realize everyone wasn't fickle or fixated on the negative.

As CtrlAltie artfully illustrated and TerryP and others spoke about, the kneejerk reaction of those looking to boo JPW fails to consider the actions of ten other players on the field.

I'm sorry you've been tossed from "every other forum" in which you've participated. Perhaps it's a pattern of your posts, and not an orchestrated attempt to deprive you of your inalienable right to college player bashing. Him being a senior and all, I can see how this makes it all the more imperative. We wouldn't want him to exhaust his eligibility as the all-time leading passer in Alabama history without you having a suitable outlet for your frustrations.

I mean, a tag only has so many letters in it.

RTR,

Tim

I hope any and all who booed get hit by a bus at some point this week, or at the very least have their tickets stolen. I'd like to think that we as BAMA fans are better than barn fans, but last night proved that we are really no different. We fill up the seats better, but that's about it. Sad.

Hearing all the booing on Saturday seriously turned my stomach, all those people need a good kick in the face for it. You NEVER EVER boo your team...ESPECIALLY when they're winning. They should be ashamed of themselves, and shouldn't be considered Bama fans.

Yep, I wish all the QB complainers and booers could have the opportunity to suit up and take a snap from the center in a third and long situation, just to get a true sense of what JPW or any other college QB has to face in that given situation.

Wonder how many could read the defense or pick up a secondary receiver with what seems like the world coming at 'em? I also bet the majority of them would STFU after that, provided they could still walk and talk.

You know, I'm not going to sit here and tell someone that they can't boo at a game. But man, it sure seems like there used to be a lot less of it. One reason, I suppose, is because we were once a more dominant team, and rarely had a scare like we had Saturday night. If you want to call it that. The other reason, I suppose, is because there are a lot of people in that stadium who just DO NOT GET IT. College football is much more competitive now than it was when there was 15 great teams and a whole bunch of people that they beat.

No doubt, the recruiting is on track and this team will be much better in the future. I think we showed great progress just Saturday night, in a game that so many times over the past few years, we might have lost.

Roll Tide, win or lose. Roll Tide Roll. Maybe the bandwagon that get a little heavy last week has thinned back down some.

I wounder how many could get their uniform on and get 4 or 5 steps down the tunnel before defecating on themselves.

If they were playing acoustic, I'd agree.

this is music to my ears. I got kicked off every other forum I have been on for being critical of JPW. To now hear someone else echo my thoughts is great. He is a senior and we as fans have the right after spending a couple hundred bucks every weekend and dealing with the troubles of getting to and from the game to criticize a player. I was soooooo upset with JPW last year after the season, we it came time to renew my car tag I chose NEEDQB for my personalized tag. If he leads us to something great I will eat crow, until then.....

Bet you're going to feel like you have been deceived when Star Jackson and McCarron are just as bad or even worse than Wilson.

That will suck won't it.

Hey, at least his tag will still be acurate :x !

I listened to the game as called by Eli originally. Last night, I caught the video replay on CSS. After watching the video replay of the game, I'm not nearly as alarmed by the sacks on JPW. It was obvious that, while the OL didn't look stellar, the sacks were primarily due to the running backs not picking up the outside blitz. Tulane did get pressure up the middle several times, but that wasn't entirely unexpected given our OL injuries.

Positives to take out of this:

- Special teams play was much, much better than last week.
- Our 'D' played pretty darn well, not allowing a TD. We gave up too many yards and they bent too much but never broke.
- We only had the one turnover. One is still too many, but at least JPW didn't throw a pick.

I know I don't know all the ins and outs that many of you do. I know I don't always see the other "stuff" going on inside each play.

I don't have all the answers and don't even have all the questions. I was going to stay completely quiet on this topic, but I just couldn't.

My faith in JPW is wavering at best. I mentioned this last week as well.....as long as he is there forget a downfield threat. I'm OK with that as long as he plays like he did vs. Clemson. I'll take 5-10 yards here and there happily. Unfortunately we weren't able to take advantage of a perceived weakness in Tulane (their secondary). Obviously when JPW has no time I get that we can't set up the deep ball. But, there were times when he did.

Now maybe I don't know how to spot when a WR hasn't run the correct route or maybe I don't get all the other details behind it all. I just know when you have the corner/safety beat and you continually don't put it in the WR's range (and you have the time to set up the throw) you HAVE to look at the QB.

He admits he had a bad game. Fine. I'll be cheering him on next week. I just don't get how we're right back here again. Unfortunately in the offseason Saban basically said JPW is it, so we'd better get behind him. How all these other teams pull in these great QB's and continue just rotating one for another is beyond me right now. I just don't know what to say. :?

i thought JP had a pretty decent game.

---something with the timing is still off on the long ball. hope that gets fixed by the ark or uga game. maybe it's the receiver or maybe the pressure is throwing off the timing. i dunno... but the long balls over the first 2 games have been consistently overthrown or under-ran (new word!!!).

---something good about his play that i haven't seen was that run he took around the left end. brilliant! the way teams are approaching us is going to leave a lot of room to JP for running. everyone is biting hard on our play action.

I should have waited for you to post. You said it so much better than me. :)

I say we wait this one out before we start pointing fingers. Let's give them a couple of games to prove themselves. No more rampant expectations after a big win, and at the same time no more meltdowns or pointed fingers after a loss or a not so pretty win. Let the players have a semi-bad day with out searching for a way to point out to them how awful they are, because...if anything..it only adds to the problem. Just give them a chance...

you're being far to hard on our man at this point. :?

This is SO true and pretty much sums up the way 90% of our fanbase regards EVERYTHING......without an ounce of honest perspective.

It has been said before but guys.....we are 2-0 and #11 in the nation. It is hard to get jacked up for every game. Give the man a break too. He was behind a patchwork O-line.

Roll Tide!

Your capacity for rationality is probably shot on this subject. Not only are you a 30 year old man with a car tag that chastises a man barely out of his teens, but you have freely admitted that you have been banned from many message boards due to your overt obsession with this person.

I do hope that your obsession is limited only to message boards.

First off, I am completly rational. Yes the tag was completly emotionally driven, however at the end of the day the least to be gained from it is a good laugh. I think it's hilarious. Plenty of other people do also. Now I don't know you personally, but since you have judged me based on my post, I will take the time to do the same. You strike me as the type that yells about all of our National Championships when we lose. A true "Bama can do no wrong" kinda of guy. You need to wake up my friend. Parody and scholarship limitations have leveled the playing field. When you step on the field to play for Bama you best bring it. JPW is not capable of "bringing it". We all have the right to criticize a player. I, just like many, use that right. Now you can sit up there and thumb your nose at people like me and you pat a kid on the back when he does wrong, but thats where you and me are different. I can live with that. You sir seemed to be the one that is fixated, as you put it, on me.
