šŸˆ Jalen's dad suggests "biggest free agent in history." Jalen's brother refers to stories as "click bait." What's next for Hurts?

What Hurts lacks is confidence in his throws. He has the arm, even the accuracy, when he throws on time. Problem is that he does not trust himself to throw into even single coverage. Unless the target is wide open or good separation, he will not pull the trigger. Oft times, he waits too long, leading to a pass being late, so the WR has to wait on it and the coverage catches up. So even when they catch it, they are taken down immediately. Even if he learns his progressions, until he has confidence to throw into tight coverage, he will never develop into a great QB.
Bingo.....most of the time Jalen isn't even ready position to deliver the ball on the break and that is the problem of the QB coach. #2 is a wildcat QB that has started every game for 2 years.

But...Jalan is a Nick Saban style QB.....
Dont make mistakes..or put the D in a bad situation....
Sorry..thats the truth....Jalan starts next year...Tua gets snaps and subs...
Tua made plenty of bad plays in NC game.....D bailed him out....ad gave Bama a chance...on the play he lost 17 yards ( in OT) ...go back and lookhad he tossed the ball in the left flats to Harris..... would have been a hugh gain if not a TD...
He made some really nice plays for sure...but.....

If you keep having to punt and put your defense out there for 99 plays that technically could be referred to as putting your defense in a bad position. In all fairness, had we not scored the ball against Georgia and given our defense some hope in the 3rd quarter we were going to lose that game big time. It's about getting off the field and it's also about morale. Both were needed by the defense in that game.

Tua needs reps in live action and more experience. But to watch him throw darts and process the field in a nanosecond makes me believe this one has the "it" factor.

Boy, this could end up being really, really bad. If it becomes as big of a distraction as I think it could it could kill this team. I'm sure Jalen isn't thrilled about his father saying these things public, either. And if Jalen DOES transfer, I think this spring has shown just how bad that could end up being, especially if Tua's hand injury becomes a reoccurring thing. I dont think anyone is thrilled about the possibility of Mac Jones being forced into a starting role at some point.

Tua has the more talented are it apprears, but we've only seen a very small subset of playing time from him. We have two full seasons to see where Jalen shines and doesn't.

I agree with 50+yeartidefan.... I think the starting job is Jalen's to lose. He will need to improve in the passing game though if we plans to keep it. I think Saban truly values taking care of the ball and not making mistakes over the more talented arm, but only to a certain level where the lack of passing will lose us games... There is a balancing act somewhere in there... I'll be interested to see how he's progressed this weekend during A-day. He really doesn't have much to correct to be a top notch QB... it's all his timing and trust... but that might be something you just can't teach too...

And to YOUR point.....the AU game...i really believe JH has regressed in passing....
He can do it....i just worry if they have beat the...."dont make a mistake " into him...
Going to be a fun year to watch...how the new OC and QB coach work things...
But I believe....it will be ball control...heavy running with these backs n Oline...
And @94 Grad ....fully agree.... as it was with...Barnett..or Bateman.... theirs to lose

I've said this multiple times it takes Jalen too long to process information make decisions and throw the ball. It's plain and simple he is not an accurate passer. I don't see there being any big competition for this fall.

There's a lot of time between now and when CNS makes the decision on who starts game 1. In that time there will be a lot of 7 on 7 and individual work. So far in his career at Alabama, CNS has made some pretty good personnel decisions. Whoever starts game 1 may not start game 2. I have faith that the right decision will be made.

You had me until "Jalen stars next year". Saying the D bailed Tua out is kind of funny considering how little Jalen did for the D in his playoff stints.

Because ultimately, it's not about beating Vandy and Ole Miss anymore. It's about winning the big ones, and Jalen as the sole QB has been a tremendously unproductive situation.

As was already said to say Jalen didnt put the defense bad situations last year just isn’t factual. If you don’t move the ball and have to punt that’s putting the defense in a bad spot and it happened a lot last year. If a person is being honest with themselves they know that Jalen hasn’t progressed as a passer and the time that it takes him to read defenses and make his progressions hasn’t improved.

As a parent myself, I deal with things like this all the time. Both my girls play softball and pretty good at it. They both pitch for their teams. And yes I believe sometimes my kid needs to be playing over a player not as good But, I would never express my feelings to the public.

That said, there are a few updates on some of the media embeddable sites that needs to be done...we'll get it in the next 24 hours.

Is Jalen Hurts on his way out of Tuscaloosa? That seemingly months old discussion became the focus of the college football world once again on Thursday as Bleacher Report’s Matt Hayes unleashed some revealing comments from Hurts’ father in a feature on the Alabama quarterback.

The article’s title on the Bleacher Report website reads ā€œIf You Think Jalen Hurts Is Just Giving Up on ā€˜Bama, You Clearly Don’t Know Him,ā€ but the site’s social media team shared out the stories with the caption ā€œJalen Hurts is likely to transfer from Alabama if he doesn’t win the starting QB job. His dad says he’ll become ā€˜the biggest free agent in college football history.'ā€

The latter narrative has been a popular topic of discussion for Alabama fans and college football followers alike in the hours since. But at least one person close to the situation, Jalen’s brother Averion Hurts, was put off by the assertion that Hurts’ transfer was a forgone conclusion if Tua Tagovailoa happens to win the Crimson Tide starting quarterback role going into the season.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Hurts’ older brother offered this telling take on the Bleacher Report story:

ā€œYeah, you’d be a fool to believe every thing that you read on the internet,ā€ the former Texas Southern quarterback wrote. ā€œFreaking click bait.ā€

If you’re an Alabama fan hoping that the junior quarterback sticks around for an opportunity to play in his third national title game with the Crimson Tide, his brother’s response is probably an encouraging sign.

Still yet, comments from Hurts’ father (also named Averion) in the Bleacher Report article paint a different picture.

ā€œCoach Saban’s job is to do what’s best for his team. I have no problem with that,ā€ Averion Hurts said. ā€œMy job is to do what’s best for Jalen—and make no mistake, Jalen is a quarterback, and he wants to play quarterback. He loves Alabama, loves Coach Saban and everything about that place. But he wants to play, and he will playā€¦ā€

Alabama linebacker Mack Wilson also weighed in on the situation via Twitter, reiterating that he supports both Crimson Tide quarterbacks through what is becoming an increasingly difficult time.

A throwing hand injury to Tagovailoa has complicated this situation further, leaving Hurts as the top quarterback on the depth chart as the team prepares for its annual A-Day spring game on Saturday. Tagovailoa has been ruled out of the exhibition by Saban, and with photos circulating of Tagovailoa’s hand in a cast after what was termed a ā€œsetbackā€ with his injury, it’s hard to say when we’ll see the two go head-to-head in competition next.

Jalen Hurts' brother's response to Alabama QB transfer rumors may be telling

The 2017 AU game was bad but the 2016 AU was just as bad in the passing game. If you recall he threw two of the worst picks that has ever been thrown in that stadium. Truth is Jalen has had major success because of his running ability as a QB. Teams had to work hard to contend with his feet as well as passing. Once those teams learned that he has limits to what he can do in the passing scheme then they schemed to stop the running game and made him have to throw. It WILL ALWAYS come to what you don't do well that the defense will make you have to do well since they will take away what you do well. Bama plays offense one handed with Jalen at QB when they play really really good football teams. I hate this all came about the week of A-Day. Daddy could have had his say next week after the game.
