That Arkansas beats LSU and doesn't leapfrog Bama in the BCS polls? Yes, I know we're probably better off not playing in the SEC but wouldn't it be great to go and win our conference?

Even if LSU looses to Arkansas they'd still more than likely go to Atlanta unless they dropped more than 5 spots behind us in the BCS... While the tie breaker in the SEC goes to BCS ranking, there is a little clause in there that says ( unless there are less than 5 spots between the two then it depends on head to head)

With my understanding of the rules (which my understanding can be flawed) and what I would expect to happen if LSU lost to Arky, LSU would prob. drop to 3 and Bama 1 and Arky 2. Yeah LSU is within 5 spots of us, but the top 2 is where they would look for head to head. That would put us over Arky for SEC. Even if Arky is 1, Us 2, and LSU 3, we would go to SEC champ because we have the head to head over Arky.

You're spot on with this. I don't see what is so hard to understand especially if LSU loses. BTW, we need to be rooting for the Penn State to win out

I'm still thoroughly confused! If Arky beats LSU, how far does LSU drop? Isn't that the biggest cog in the wheel here? When does that "within five spots" thing come into play? If LSU falls to say 4, and Arky is 2 and we are 1, doesn't LSU go because they beat us and they are within 5 spots? Somehow I picture a bunch of guys sitting around with a sundial, sextant and a piece of string trying to figure this out!

No, the "within 5 spots" clause only applies to the top two teams from the Division within the BCS rankings. If Arky wins, then the only way LSU goes is if Arky jumps us to #1 and LSU only drops to #2 - putting us at #3. I think that is HIGHLY unlikely. More likely is that if Arky wins, we move up to #1 in the BCS and Arky improves to #2 with LSU at #3 - we go to SECCG. Another scenario that may happen is that if Arky wins, they jump us to go to #1, we stay at #2 and LSU drops to #3. In that scenario, the top two teams in the division are within 5 spots and so the head to head clause kicks and we win.

If LSU wins, it's probably "safer" for us, but I'd still like to go to the SECCG.

Now, having said all that, HOPEFULLY, our players and coaches aren't paying any attention to any of this crap and are laser-focused on pounding the snot out of Aubie, because we really won't need to worry about any of this if we don't win. We need to forget all this stuff and come out strong against the Barn. They have improved all season long and we better take them seriously - especially if we are still dealing with injuries.

Okay, gotcha. I would like to see us in the SECCG as well just because I am selfish and want the SEC West and SEC championship title as well. :)

As long as we get into the BCS championship game, the rest is a side dish

Three or more-team procedure

  1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
  2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
  3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
  4. Records against the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
  5. Complete record vs. non-division teams.
  6. Complete record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
  7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
  8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.
