Agreed but his pitcher put him in that position more than the runner did.
I noticed that little "toss." Having played 1st, I've got my left foot on the bag and I'm stretching as much as I can to the infield. I don't know if that would have helped. Look at the angle of the throw. (You can see he's inside the line here. Smart play is a low tag at the feet...except for that getting your hand stepped on thing.)

Looks like the throw put him in across the bag??? Maybe.?? If the throw took him across, I’d think he’d be safe. It is hard to tell if the runner is out or in. I think they use these angles so the umps have an out if they make a bad call. You never ever see a camera straight down the foul lines…

Let me ask this.

Is he inside the running lane/box? In spite of the angle, I can't see how.
 
He is considered inside the running lane if any part of his foot (feet) are touching any part of the foul line.
Just got a mental image of John Kruk running to first and his right foot barely touching the line ...
