🏈 Interesting- Spurrier press conference today (questions kicking team)

yep, i watched tonight and couldn't see anything on any of the PATs or FGs but after each PAT you can CLEARLY see Fitzgerald reach down and pick something up but he doesn't do it sneaky at all he does in front of everybody, SC players and Bama. on the FG's you could see the field better and closer up but i didn't see anything and I didn't see eithere Fitzgerald nor Tiffin put something down or pick something up. idk what that means, but i guess this could be an uh oh.

seriously? I can see the problem if we were sneaking a tee out for field goals. But, a piece of tape? I mean come on. I dont see how that in any way gives Bama an advantage or whatever. CSS is trying to find something to complain about.

If I were a GameCock fan, I'd be pissed. After giving up 5 sacks and 11 pressures on the quarterback, the head coach is spending this much time reviewing the kicking game???

Or perhaps worrying about a certain Vandy team who has beaten them the last two years in a row.

I was reading an article from one of the USCe websites and this comment by a Gamecock fan was perfect:

"When hired, we hoped that Steve Spurrier would rub off on the Gamecocks. With this complaint, it seems the Gamecocks have rubbed off on Steve Spurrier..."

Classic! :td:

Can anyone say whether this would be grounds for forfeiture of games? I could just see them creating new precedense (sp?) to take a game away from us.

Please tell me this is no big deal. Or is a wait and see thing?

T

No big deal. it would be in the same category as any other missed penalty during a game. The officials are charged with enforcing the rule. If they miss calling a penalty that is just the breaks of the game. The game is a closed issue. If the film revealed, that Alabama was guilty of holding on a key play but it was not called, we would not be having this discussion.

Exactly. This is nothing more than a missed call.

On the same note, I'm hearing that USC's athletic director has complained to the SEC about Alabama playing Hell's bells during the 3rd downs.

And just what did we ever do to South Carolina? :lance: This is getting pretty ridiculous and petty.

This tape thing is all over Atlanta sports radio, and it's all about Alabama cheating yet again. They're saying this one is worse because now it's on the field as well as off. They discussed probably nothing happening but also discussed possible forfeiture.

Never did they mention Saban's comments and any other program doing anything like this. Never mentioned anything about 5-yard penalty. Hmmmm, seems like none of them have done their homework this morning.

Coach Nick Saban on the SEC Conference call was just asked about Spurrier's comment about using a piece of tape to mark where the ball should go on field goals and extra points.

"I have to be very honest about this, I was not aware of this. I have become aware of this since it was brought to my attention. We certainly don't want our players to do anything that's illegal. It's a five-yard penalty if you do anything to enhance the spot.

"We're done some research on it and over half of the teams do something, whether it's put a piece of grass there or piece of mud, or whatever it is so the kicker knows where it's going to be spotted. We even saw verification of something where even South Carolina's kicker did something. This is not something that is really unusual for people to do. It is something that shouldn't be done because it's against the rules. We're actually happy it was brought to our attention because I wasn't aware of it."
