🏈 Interesting- Spurrier press conference today (questions kicking team)

Yea I thought about this but was just curious as to what would happen in the circumstance where a player was actually standing in the end zone but gained possession in front of the line and fell forward all the while keeping both feet down in the end zone. Almost along the lines of a players catching the ball out of bounds but keeping their feet in.

if the ball while in the receiver's posession, does not touch the goal line, even if the player is in the endzone, it should not be a touchdown.

This happened in a steelers-ravens game last year and was very very close. they ultimately called it a TD cuz the ball barely touched the start of the endzone line while the receiver had it, and he was falling forward.

If its a close call, they'll stick with what was called on the field.

No TD - ball has to cross the plane. Works the other way as well. If his feet were on the two yard line, but he was able to stretch his hands so the ball crossed the plane - TD.

The piece of tape shouldve been noticed by the refs and called for unsportsmanlike conduct. It shouldve been called in the game.

It wasnt, but it was an ingame thing, if it happens again, you can bet itll be called.

And then as far as Barron goes, common perception was it as a touchdown.

I saw an awesome pass and catch to moss in the NFL, he had left his legs in the front corner of the endzone and was leaning out of bounds about 3 feet out. Tom Brady threw a bullet pass well out of boound, but in range of his hands. He caught it right before his knee hit the ground out of bounds.

Ruled touchdown immediatly, no challenge.

the plane only applies to the front of the end zone,i.e., goal line...everywhere else it matters where your feet are and control of the ball

But the ball never touched any part of the endzone where it could apply, the throw was out of bounds and caught in the front of the endzone. The only thing ever inside at any point were his legs.

Its a case of letting the players play.

I'm fairly certain it's an illegal procedure type of penalty, if called.

Five yards, re-kick.

So in other words it's a non issue?

Pretty much...

The only thing I find interesting about it is how Spurrier chose his press conference to discuss this. If he was that concerned, he'd have picked up the phone.

It's not the first time I've seen someone makes comments like that. Earlier this year I saw a thread about Florida doing something similar—might have been their Arkansas game?

I watched again tonight, and it is very obvious on both extra points that he is looking for and then picking up something on the ground. You can't see what it was, but he did it on both PATs. You couldn't see anything on the 2 FG tries.

NCAA Rules use the term "scrimmage kick" when referring to kicks where something marking the position would make the kick illegal.

Rule 6-3(d) states that “any device or material used to mark the spot of a scrimmage place kick or elevate the ball makes the kick illegal.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but field goals would be scrimmage kicks because they occur on a "scrimmage down" but an extra point would not be a scrimmage kick since it occurs after a touchdown and does not occur on a "scrimmage down".

If I'm right about this, there would be nothing wrong with using a marker.

That being said, I looked at the game again on my DVR and you could very obviously see a white "thingy" on the ground when the holder placed the ball and it moved during the kick. After the kick the holder looked for it and picked it up.

<edit> [EDIT]I looked at the field goals from the game and it certainly looks like there is something on the ground where the ball is held but the camera moves up too quickly to see if the holder picks it up like on the points after touchdown. I don't like it...</edit>
