🏈 Interesting- Spurrier press conference today (questions kicking team)

Spurrier press conference today

Spurrier said today in press conference that PJ was putting a piece of tape down on the ground to mark the ball for field goals. He said he would be contacting NCAA to see if this was legal. He said PJ would place the tape on the ground before the kick then pick the tape up and put it in his pocket. Didn't know football pants had pockets. What a rat fink, I cannot stand whinny butt Spurrier. What's going to happen with this?:swear:

Spurrior might have a beef.

Anybody else notice this? I noticed it on my Tivo and was wondering when somebody else would catch on. (should be a touchback and USCe ball at the 20 IMO)

Looks to me like the ball comes out of his hand at the same time his foot hits the line, would this not be a TD? I know the ball can cross the plane ahead of your body but can your foot be in the end zone and you not score? Also this is a video camera recording the play off of a tv and doesn't give a goal line view where we could see the actual plane.

Fine. Take off Tiffen's points and Bama still wins 12-6.

Honestly if this is true this is cheating. If it is done without knowing it was against the rules then shame on someone for not knowing on the staff, if it was done with knowing then shame on them seriously. Keep the damn game clean. If this came from another team playing against Bama I would be willing to bet there would be some serious complaining going on around here.

Ball is the only thing that matters

The ball has to cross the plane. Since all plays are reviewed, the ball must have crossed the plane. You know bad angle and all.

LOL I wasn't trying to be insulting or anything like that I was just stating that from that angle there is no way to know and you could have 1,000 people view it with a 50/50 split. I think the only true angle that would show it would be the goal line but like you said since every play is reviewed apparently this is a non issue.

Now the tape on the other hand could be an issue if true.

So what happens if one of our receivers run just to the end zone with both feet in and Greg throws the pass a little short, say at the 1 yard line and while keeping their feet in the end zone they lay forward and catch the ball and fall to their stomach. This wouldn't be a TD?

The ball has to touch the white line, does not matter where the player is. I'm sure you've seen guys diving at the pilon(sp) while diving out of bounds and holding the ball out while there body is in the air and just the ball crosses the line and its a TD.

Not if the ball doesnt ever touch the goal line. The ball would be spotted at the one in the case above.

If the referees didn't see it or if it wasn't challenged, it didn't happen. I believe that's the rule. You can see missed calls on every play if you look for them.

I noticed it when it first happened and prolly should have been called a touchback.

And on the tape issue, surely if they did that on every kick, the refs would have noticed if what they were doing was illegal. In addition, so what would have happened? They would have been penalized and forced to re-kick. Really this is a bit pathetic. But whatever...

Yea I thought about this but was just curious as to what would happen in the circumstance where a player was actually standing in the end zone but gained possession in front of the line and fell forward all the while keeping both feet down in the end zone. Almost along the lines of a players catching the ball out of bounds but keeping their feet in.
