🏈 Insider info on Auburn case?

Let's keep Stallings in proper context, however. He did win a SWAC championship with TAM, and he left in 1971 - we didn't hire him until 1990. Between '71 and '90 he coached in the NFL, mostly with Dallas where he was quite successful, hence his hiring with the Cardinals as HC. He didn't do well with the Cardinals, but NOBODY has done well with the Cardinals. Chizik started out as an assistant at; MTSU, followed by Stephen F. Austin (1-AA) and then Auburn's staff as DC. He then had his disaster at Iowa State before coming back to Auburn.

No matter how you slice it, he appears to have been hand-picked as an Auburn homey willing to "play ball."

Very, very interesting point.

65 you make valid points about Stallings winning the SWAC, but he was fired from aTm. I remember hearing him talk to Finebaum about it and saying he remembers being called in to talk to the AD thinking they were about to talk about the next years goals, and he got his walking papers.

Yes Stallings had a great career as an assistant. So did Chizik. He went undefeated in 04 and 05 as an assistant. He tanked at a school that was a situation similar to that of Arizona. He now seems to be in the right place with the right pieces to the puzzle around him.

And I agree, from the outside looking in, Chiz does look very much like a pawn.

I expect this sort of tinfoil hat conspiracy mongering at places like BamaMag or BamaOnline. It's their specialty. But isn't this supposed to be the reasonable Bama message board?

Most barners aren't so Pollyanna like as to believe that even though Cecil asked for $180k from MSU, Auburn got Cam for free. Keep on buying the party line.

I'm aware that Stallings was fired from TAM. My post was in response to others saying his time there was a complete failure - I pointed out he won a championship. I would also add that Stallings had over 40+ years experience - mostly very successful (including two NC staff positions with the greatest coach in college football, Bear Bryant) - at VERY substantial institutions and organizations before we hired him. Aside from Auburn, all told, Chizik has coached at MTSU, Stephen F. Austin, Central Florida, Iowa State, and a very fortunate 1-year stop at Texas the year Vince Young won the NC.

My point was that, as MANY Barners themselves also felt at the time, Gene Chizik had very little on his resume to support his hiring as head coach - defensive coordinator, maybe, but head coach, no. In this particular thread the comparison to Stallings was presented and I compared the two. In absolute terms and the Stallings comparison notwithstanding, with such little resume and with the rumored desire of Lowder and Dye to get a more "manageable" coach than Tubby, it would appear that Chizik was brought on to be a puppet. On that point, we seem to agree.

I don't think it's Pollyanna to believe, especially since at least two other teams prominently recruiting Cam have come out saying that they never heard of any money offers, that a known crooked agent who really only has connections to MSU (being a former player there) encouraged Cecil to go down this road but similar connections did not exist at Auburn, Oklahoma or Tennessee.

And forgive me if I tend to trust the judgment of people who have spent at least 5 months looking into all of this and who had first hand access to the financial, phone, email and other records. Not to mention getting to interview, sometimes repeatedly, all the principal players in the drama and compare stories. I'll take their judgment on the situation over the over-active imaginations of anonymous message board posters trying to establish some sort of e-cred any day of the week.

First, no one forces you to participate on the Forum. Second, "reasonable" goes in both directions. I see a substantial amount of "reasonable" debate and discussion on a topic that "reasonably" includes both objective and subjective interjection along with "reasonably" fact-based historical information regarding many of the players/individuals involved and their track records. If you don't want to "reasonably" consider that Saint Cameron could have possibly known all along or that Auburn officials such as Dye or Lowder could ever possibly offer favors, then simply don't read the thread. I don't see anything unreasonable in discussing and debating a variety of possiblities. Lastly, if you're going to spend your time and energy on a Bama Forum, then interject facts or personal opinions in response to other threads - mind you, do so with intelligence and due respect as your "friends" Duder and foshman have been doing - but spare us the whining and sniveling about the nature of the Forum itself.

Then why are you even on here presenting your opinion? If you're so sure there was no Auburn funny business, then why should you even care what anyone on a Bama Forum says? Frankly, to me your ramblings are those of a person who is actually quite worried deep down. Why Worry? You, "...trust the judgment of people who have spent at least 5 months looking into all of this..." Go about your merry way and fear not; AU is in good hands with Lowder, Dye, and McGregor.

Me thinks thou doth protest too much. (Actual quote from Hamlet: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks.")

Well because, as I said, I was surprised to see this sort of yarn-spinning going on here as opposed to some other Bama forums that more or less wouldn't exist if they couldn't make up harebrained stories about Auburn.

Look around. Protesting once isn't protesting too much. I just thought I'd point out that this sort of wild rumor mongering is (at least supposed to be) out of character for RTB.com.

To me, that's what the whole hiring of Chizik was about from the beginning. Here's a guy, who they are paying a rediculous amount for his limited success, to come in and basically be a head coach in title only. How good was Auburn before Malzahn? Very average on offense. They were a defense program. Honestly, their defense has been sub-par each of the past three years, including Tubs' last season. So, now, they are an offensive juggernaut? Whew...Everything down there has changed.

For a college that is always trying to keep up with another program, they really made no sense at all hiring Chizik. He's their pawn, and he'll be the first to admit that, sometime down the road.

Not sure if you read my messages I posted, but are they by far from trying to get, e-cred, as you call it. I am a grown man and don't need any credit from anyone on the web. I have banks to give me credit, not people I don't know.

As I "Clearly" stated in my post, it is ALL hear say, which means it is for entertainment purposes until further notice. If you don't find it entertaining, don't join the discussion.

It's beyond funny to me how Auburn fans come to Bama message boards and complain about what is being said. As stated earlier, I think deep down inside, they know something is up. THEY KNOW IT. If not, they wouldnt be here.

I will use the common phrase that we have all heard, "Way too much smoke to not be some fire." It is not just going to go away. Every national media outlet is tearing AU, NCAA, and the SEC a new one.

...if you dont like what is being said on a message board, simply dont read it. That is the reason I dont visit rival teams sites.

If you guys only knew the amount of Bull**** rumors pumped out by the Auburn website in which Titan is an administrator, you'd find his comments much more entertaining.

Brandon Gibson received hundreds in a book.
Luther Davis' mom got a new kitchen.

That's just what I remember. Every recruiting season, there were new rumors to be had by Mr. Drillpress himself, before he robbed a bunch of people and disappeared into the stench of burning oil and metal.

SMU:no-no:

GO DUCKS!

Well I can tell you that he didn't give them the money through "rigged slot machines" they are illegal in Ohio. They did pass a measure last fall but that only allows a certain group to open casinos. I think what you might be referring to are what they call "Skill games" they work in about the same fashion, except they cannot give out cash. The winners instead receive gift cards.

OH MY GOD! This is absolutely ridiculous! If anyone on this message board knows anything about recent Alabama occurences/ has a brain please stand up! McGregor got money to Birmingham mayor Larry Langford via rigged slot machines at Victoryland--i.e. someone assoc. with Langford would walk in, play certain machines, win a certain amount of money from those certain machines, and walk out with the cash that McGregor promised Langford, it was fairly simple really and actually quite ingenious. It has nothing to do with anything in Ohio other than the booster from Ohio. Therefore, this whole thread is saying that an AUBURN ALUM in OHIO gave 1 million dollars to Auburn that Auburn supposedly did not write down as receiving and this has led to the Ohio booster of Auburn (bear in mind, he's not a random Ohio-an, he's an Aub Alum) being arrested for tax EVASION, as in, he tried to get credit for giving money he apparently, according to Auburn, didn't give. Therefore, Auburn, according to this man, has 1 million dollars to go toward athletics that they have not reported!! It has nothing to do with Ohio slot machines or anything of that mess-- I'm sorry to type with ferocity, but it's a very NON-COMPLICATED story and it seems like no one understands it!

Furthermore, are you kidding, TitanTiger!? You're on an Alabama forum and you're arguing with a vengeance for the Barn?? Get a life! Go away! Are you seriously telling us you think there is NO WAY Cam got money to play for y'all?? Really?? "No evidence???" Well, duh! When you're blind to the evidence right in front of you of course there's not gonna be any evidence to sway you!! Look at the facts, please!! This is so ridiculous, there is obviously a ton of evidence to say that Scam is receiving money from SOMEWHERE and all the Aubs do is hip-hip-hooray about his innocence, like, who celebrates the innocence that you always thought you had anyways?? Well, terrorists... O.J. Simpson... PEOPLE THAT ARE GUILTY CELEBRATE INNOCENCE-- the happier the Auburn "family" is, the more reason I have to believe everyone of 'em thinks he took money! GO AWAY BARNERS
