...which puts the total number of players on scholarship right now at 72.
That number includes the guys that have already joined the team when the winter/spring semester started in January. If you recall, we had four arrive in January — Carpenter, Warmack, Murphy and Preyear.
The last two, Kerry and Jermaine, were not part of the 2009 class.
James and Chance were part of the 2009 class signed in February: a total of 27 players were signed.
One of those, Quinton Dial, has already announced he's planning on heading to JUCO. With Dial out, that leaves the class at a total of 26.
Right now, there are two players who still haven't qualified: Darrington Sentimore and Eddie Lacy.
So, we still need the incoming class numbers reduced by one. That'll happen one of two ways. Either Lacy or Sentimore fails to qualify or we have one of the incoming freshman agree to defer their enrollment until January of 2010.
Right now, by my math (and the coffee is still brewing,) the number is now ten.
