I agree 100% about the offensive line coaching. I believe that a lot of our offensive problems stem from the OL. Cam Robinson (CR) was tagged twice last night for holding. CR's performance led to several QB rushes and tackles of our running backs in our back field. CR was the number 1 rated 5-star tackle in the country. Cristobal, however, is probably the best recruiter on Saban's staff.

rj, I've been saying this for some time. Starting with the Va Tech game in his first season, the OL has not looked the same. I love the talent that we seem to bring in, but on the field, it is apparent that we don't dominate opponents like we used to on the line. See Notre Dame game for last domination against a top level team. There have been some flashes from time to time but that is about it.
Still, I support the team and the staff decisions that are made because I do love Bama.
I'd say a mixture of talent and inexperience. Cam and Kelly are the only two that have been consistent starters. I do think Shank started a game or in the past. I would compare our O line play with the play of Coker. Coker is going to make some plays and he is going to make some boneheaded mistakes as well due to inexperience. The O line is doing the same thing.
Believe it or not people complained about Pendry when he was here. Same with Stoutland. Fans always think the grass is greener. Hell, I remember a few threads when McElwain was called out for terrible play calling, some going as far as to say he shouldn't be at Bama. Now all I see (not as much here, but more at places like BOL) is how we wish we could get back to those days. The cycle continues.
We also got a bit spoiled in 2011 with Cyrus K, Warmack, B Jones, Warmack, and Steen. That OL will be viewed much like this year's DL will be viewed.
Stoutland had some issues with evaluations, but ultimately, Saban is signing off on that stuff, so you could say he had some swings and misses as well. I'm interested in watching how the '15 OL class develops... by all accounts, the staff is high on them.

If the standard for comparison is our 2012 OL, my thought is that having talents like Fluker and Warmack on the same team is a rarity, and when you add Barrett Jones into that mix, well you just don't get three players like that very often at all, and we may not see an OL of ours play at the 2012 level again.

Here is a email that is starting to circulate around. I guess is pulled from a message thread.
------As I've scanned all the Bama Boards there have been several posts calling Cristobal just a recruiter ala Lance Thompson or even stronger, he needs to go. Let's take a closer look at their premise and why that has many holes in
it. Don't get me wrong, I personally expected a stronger performance from the

-anyone who knows college football realizes that most OL prospects usually

hard to evaluate but compounding this fact was how few OL we signed
over 2 years which would have been the foundation of the group over
the last 2 seasons. Was Cristobal on staff, no, it was Nick Saban,
Jeff Stoutland & Joe Pendry as the primary consultant.
-Saban has invested heavily in quickly developing the position with outside
minds offering years of knowledge. Not only has Pendry who we all know has
an extensive pedigree & Saban's trust but one of Saban's coaching buddies,
longtime NFL OL legend, Hudson Houck. As many of you may remember, he was
the coach engineering many of the Dallas Cowboys greatest OL's. Houck has
dropped by during the Spring session only to my knowledge for input.
-For those of you perplexed why Cam Robinson seems to have regressed or is
going through the infamous "sophomore slump" keep in mind he is slightly
hampered with knee & shoulder issues.
-Well, I'll take Stoutland over Cristobal any day plus Sundays. Stoutland
did an outstanding job in '11 & '12 but what about the inherited talent?
What has happened to Stoutland's genius when Evan Mathis showed age & now
is no longer on the roster among other issues? How is DeMarco Murray doing?

his top signee was a big one, Amari Cooper. I agree that it's more than
recruiting with OL coaches especially but it matters. As for Amari, the
hidden truth is that even his 1 big hit, Amari, was very close to staying
in Florida due to pressure from his mom which is why Stoutland & Groh
asked Cris Carter, who had known Amari for years while working with the NFL
wr's Coop worked out with in the off-season, to help solidify him.
-It's always about the players:
*Cyrus/Cam (hurting)
*Warmack/Piersbacher (still getting stronger but has nice potential)
*Jones/Kelly (scoffed when posted that Kelly would be the stronger NFL
center prospect which is materializing)
*Steen/Shank Taylor (converted NT who is struggling)
*Fluker/Jackson (both are true OG's as evidenced by where DJ is playing
with the Chargers due to footwork making them liabilities vs DE's) DJ
was one of the most dominant run blockers at OT in years anywhere.

on even though quite frankly, several staffers were even talking them up to
