šŸˆ If this doesn't make you say no to Dabo? " If this isn’t the cringiest thing you’ve ever seen... 🤢 "

Same here, especially after watching Pelham the last few years

(Pelham's...finest aren't why I feel that way; it's his big damn mouth.)
It's all about his time in Tuscaloosa with me. I was in school at the same time as Dabo although he was over in Culverhouse while I spent all my time between Morgan and Phifer. I did, however, play quite a bit of golf with a couple of Pikes and that's when I got to know him. I was around what's now the Mal Moore building A LOT during his coaching days...too damn close at times because some of the things just made me sick.

Now, I remember Coach Stallings telling a few of us when Dabo was a GA he was going to be a "heck of a football coach." He was right.

Being a good football coach and being the head coach at Alabama? It's not a one variable position, if that makes sense. As a few of us have been discussing it's take a special cut of person to handle the pressure. A really different breed when it comes to the spotlights. And then there's dealing with the powers that be off the field. The latter being the most difficult of all.

You and I were at UA about the same time then. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Dabo redshirted, which made his senior year and my senior year coincide.

He was a walk-on. I want to say he received his scholarship in his sophomore year. As I recall he graduated in'93 (undergrad) and then received his Masters in '95. If you recall, he was promoted from his GA role as soon as he finished his Masters work.

You can kindly remove me from that list.
You always have inside info that we do not. I appreciate that immensely. I will back pedal and preface that an individual should run a clean program and not just any type of coach would fit at Bama. However, I always felt that many issues with Bama during the bad years were a result of old guard big money guys. I debated with my FIL years ago that I could see PBJr meddeling.

Meyer couldn’t handle the pressure At UF, but he brought them 2 NC’s in 6 years and restored a struggling program. I’d say he was successful. Likely 2 more if not for the greatest coach In college football being in his conference. Whoever replaced CNS will walk in to the largest accumulation of young football talent in existence. So they won’t have to rebuild anything, just keep the train barreling.

If you call all of the hinted illegal stuff the program did and him knowing about Hernandez successful, ok. He bailed when it was getting bad. I liken it to Freeze at Ole Miss, but with two Nattys.

If you were a Florida fan and saw your University having the issues they did under his tenure how would you feel? Would you consider him to be a good "face" for your University's program?

But those two titles! Yeah, I get that. It's the different between a good football coach and one who can manage a program successfully. He clearly didn't accomplish both.

Just as a side note: The booster activity is much more influential at Ohio State than it was a Florida. It's still not at the level we see in Tuscaloosa, or Auburn, or (fill in SEC school.) More importantly about Ohio State, he didn't manage that program well either.

Now, let's add all three together with Urban at Bama:

Good Football Coachāœ”
Good management of a programāŒ
Handle booster/ PTB?ā“

One of three isn't good. If we get off the field now we're adding another strike.

Still on Dabo, but changing the subject slightly. Here's another example of a "wait a minute" with Swinney.

We're a few days away with Dabo continually harping on Ohio State's inclusion in the playoffs. For one, the idea of having a Bama coach criticizing another team when the Tide is already in the playoff? It is not the look I want to see. I find it petty; almost child like whining.

I'm not commenting on whether he's right or wrong. I'm commenting what he was saying. He was very poignant pointing to Ohio State's season—acknowledging the effects of C-19, tracing, and the like—and the lack of threats they faced due to their smaller schedule. He's exactly right.

EXCEPT...

Dabo is pushing Sunshine for the Heisman. I get that. His argument falls along the lines of "stats don't matter, they should be considered." It's an argument based on Lawrence missing games and competition due to his battle with? ... See where I'm going? His season, shortened by the same this as Ohio State, but that's only applicable ... ?

Let's think about coaches we've seen at Bama in the last few decades and find a comparison. I'll start.

Franchione and his "that school down the road" bullshit. It's the same cut of personality: one that couldn't handle UA's spotlight.

If a frog’s gonna jump, Dabo’s gonna whine. No doubt about that. He knows how to win, can’t argue that. There have been few 6 year spans as successful as what he’s put together the past 6. Been a few, but not many. But the guy just doesn’t seem happy if he hasn’t found something to whine and complain about.
