It's all about his time in Tuscaloosa with me. I was in school at the same time as Dabo although he was over in Culverhouse while I spent all my time between Morgan and Phifer. I did, however, play quite a bit of golf with a couple of Pikes and that's when I got to know him. I was around what's now the Mal Moore building A LOT during his coaching days...too damn close at times because some of the things just made me sick.
Now, I remember Coach Stallings telling a few of us when Dabo was a GA he was going to be a "heck of a football coach." He was right.
Being a good football coach and being the head coach at Alabama? It's not a one variable position, if that makes sense. As a few of us have been discussing it's take a special cut of person to handle the pressure. A really different breed when it comes to the spotlights. And then there's dealing with the powers that be off the field. The latter being the most difficult of all.
