No one, other than hardcore Alabama fans, knew who Tua was before that game. Why? Because no one had ever seen him before, because he rarely saw action in games that weren't 40 point blowouts.

I fully expect him to throw some big INT's and take some bad sacks... It's his ability to make special plays that will diminish the value of those plays over time. For the first time in a long time we won't have to clinch our ass hole against good defenses and just hope something bad doesn't happen... There will be an attacking mentality... Which will certainly come with some TO's, but more importantly come with a whole lot of spreading the ball around to extremely talented dudes that can score TD's from all over the field.

No one is expecting perfection, but there is an expectation that the talent on the field will have a much better chance to produce with Tua... Including the running game.

And I agree with his ability, my point was the large section of very vocal fans this fan base has that will turn on him on a dime. I seem to recall some geniuses on this site in 2011 demanding Trent Richardson be replaced.

Don't confuse Alabama's real competition. I'm referring to those 3-4 games a year where teams can actually physically compete. I don't think we will see a "play not to lose" mentality on offense anymore... I mean, can we really pretend that wasn't the game plan with Jalen down the stretch? Painful to watch unfold the last 3 games except when the D outscored Clemson.

To be fair, you have to at least get in the same ballpark with what exactly you are taking exception to. I think your summation just gave a lot of attention to the Bama outlier more so than the mainstream criticism to Jalen's obvious limitations throwing the ball. Just depends on which Bama fans you want to give your attention to. Mainstream or the occasional outlier. That works on both sides of the QB argument.

There have been times we have only discussed certain plays, like Jalen's TD throw to Ridley vs Clemson. Everyone is being very specific in their criticism because we are trying to make a single point in the discussion. It was not meant to say it all about that QB.

As far as Josh is concerned he has turned himself into the Tua outlier. He doesn't strike a balance in what he wants or is looking for with Tua. He wants to leave room for future success, generally speaking, but doesn't speak specifically of what success he's looking for. He is the Tua outlier.

No pressure at all on Tua!!!:eyeroll: The greatest pressure that doesn't fall on an HC falls on the shoulders of the QB. The position is under the greatest microscope by A LOT of people that don't know shit about the position, but only look at results.

I imagine that regardless of his performance and stats, there will be those that are going to throw some shade at the kid. The criticism will come from those in the Jalen corner should Tua have a game where he throws 1 or more INTs, regardless if the team wins by 30. Same criticism came from those when Jalen struggled his freshman year with fumbles.

I've always tried to look at this position/ competition and keep it positive. Jalen was able to struggle at times and it be overlooked because he had that '16 defense to rely on. He didn't have to be perfect. He could struggle throwing the ball against the better defenses and it didn't matter because our defense was choking the life out of the opponent. We scored 15 NOTs!!!! When we did get pushed against Clemson, we struggled on 3rd downs and didn't bail out our tired defense. Jalen still put in a valiant effort on the final drive. He did get some help from A. Stewart on a long pass play too. '17 comes and once again, we have a dominant D. We dispose of people early. Tua comes in and shines in his limited snaps. Jalen protects the ball better and we cruise until we run into those better defenses like LSwho and the Barn. The Barn had enough of an offense to cause us problems and get us behind the 8 ball.

If you're talking about the line in the first post, that's Heisman odds.

There are prop bets out right now on who starts and Jalen is around +400. As I recall, Tua was -600 or -650. I saw it on an off-shore book, not Vegas.
