🏈 "If it continues like this, he'd be the first player to be favored for the Heisman who has never started a game." - Todd McShay

So, we're comparing a pick six from a backup QB in a game that is already a blowout to throwing a pick in a big moment? Good lord...

And where would that bet come from? Why do you guys feel the need to constantly put words in my mouth? Where have I ever said Tua wouldn't do well? You're trying to turn my "wait and see approach" into me criticizing or being down on Tua.

Tua could also throw for 3,500 yards this season. He could easily lead the SEC in TDs, in total passing yards, in total offense and accuracy. Until you can be more positive, I see the rest of us replying to your, what-ifs, as nothing more than criticism.

Yes he can and I hope he does. I've never been negative about Tua but you could respond to me anyway you wont. I will have no problem praising Tua for good play, just like I will have no problem pointing out how people turn on him if he struggles.

I think what we are trying to tell you, in our own unique way, is that when Tua goes all 2nd and 26 on our opponents we are going to be right here to go all 2nd and 26 on your, I told you so, mentality.

Oh, I have no doubt. The minute he throws a touchdown pass, you're going to be the first person to pretend like I've been critical of Tua somehow and quote me every chance you get. Difference is, I couldn't care less. I hope Tua breaks every record in the book. I'm just not going to pretend like I know for a fact that he is going to be able to turn hype and potential into success on the field, like some of you pretend like you can. It doesn't benefit him for people to put these expectations on him, either.

I'll be looking for your new avatar of #13. The first step of many on the long road to rehabilitation.

LMAO !!!

Throwing touchdown passes against Vanderbilt's walk ons is "Heisman potential?"
Don't make a mountain out of a molehill by my referencing other games. It's those very games that the potential we are talking about has been demonstrated. I didn't put him in the Heisman race. His play has.

It is what it is.

No it hasn't, hype has put him in a nonexistent race that hasn't even started.

it's comments like this that are making the hype surrounding him impossible to live up to. You commented that it wasn't just one half of one game that is creating this hype when it 100% clearly is. No one, other than hardcore Alabama fans, knew who Tua was before that game. Why? Because no one had ever seen him before, because he rarely saw action in games that weren't 40 point blowouts.

The minute he throws a pick in a big moment, takes a dumb sack (that isn't followed up by a game winner) these same fans are going to be crapping all over him. And god forbid if he losses a game.

I fully expect him to throw some big INT's and take some bad sacks... It's his ability to make special plays that will diminish the value of those plays over time. For the first time in a long time we won't have to clinch our ass hole against good defenses and just hope something bad doesn't happen... There will be an attacking mentality... Which will certainly come with some TO's, but more importantly come with a whole lot of spreading the ball around to extremely talented dudes that can score TD's from all over the field.

No one is expecting perfection, but there is an expectation that the talent on the field will have a much better chance to produce with Tua... Including the running game.

I had the same avatar for like 6 years before this one, so don' bet on it.

And I agree with his ability, my point was the large section of very vocal fans this fan base has that will turn on him on a dime. I seem to recall some geniuses on this site in 2011 demanding Trent Richardson be replaced.

And I dont understand all of these weeks of clinching your asshole considering Alabama has won by like an average of 28 points over the last two years...

Don't confuse Alabama's real competition. I'm referring to those 3-4 games a year where teams can actually physically compete. I don't think we will see a "play not to lose" mentality on offense anymore... I mean, can we really pretend that wasn't the game plan with Jalen down the stretch? Painful to watch unfold the last 3 games except when the D outscored Clemson.

There's a lot of irony is this thread highlighted by a sentence in this post (and this isn't directed at your personally.)

When a person cautions fans should have patience with Tua, warns of mistakes that are undoubtedly on the horizon and how fans will turn if some of these upcoming mistakes have impact on a games outcome it's not being positive, it's criticism.

Yet, when fans cautioned not to write Jalen off this past summer those warnings have been met with criticism of Jalen (with a lot of it being wrong.) We've seen countless comments that weren't even in the same arena as positive. "He needs to transfer" and "He needs to change positions" don't fit under the same hat of the fan who is being positive.

To be fair, you have to at least get in the same ballpark with what exactly you are taking exception to. I think your summation just gave a lot of attention to the Bama outlier more so than the mainstream criticism to Jalen's obvious limitations throwing the ball. Just depends on which Bama fans you want to give your attention to. Mainstream or the occasional outlier. That works on both sides of the QB argument.

There have been times we have only discussed certain plays, like Jalen's TD throw to Ridley vs Clemson. Everyone is being very specific in their criticism because we are trying to make a single point in the discussion. It was not meant to say it all about that QB.

As far as Josh is concerned he has turned himself into the Tua outlier. He doesn't strike a balance in what he wants or is looking for with Tua. He wants to leave room for future success, generally speaking, but doesn't speak specifically of what success he's looking for. He is the Tua outlier.

No pressure at all on Tua!!!:eyeroll: The greatest pressure that doesn't fall on an HC falls on the shoulders of the QB. The position is under the greatest microscope by A LOT of people that don't know shit about the position, but only look at results.

I imagine that regardless of his performance and stats, there will be those that are going to throw some shade at the kid. The criticism will come from those in the Jalen corner should Tua have a game where he throws 1 or more INTs, regardless if the team wins by 30. Same criticism came from those when Jalen struggled his freshman year with fumbles.

I've always tried to look at this position/ competition and keep it positive. Jalen was able to struggle at times and it be overlooked because he had that '16 defense to rely on. He didn't have to be perfect. He could struggle throwing the ball against the better defenses and it didn't matter because our defense was choking the life out of the opponent. We scored 15 NOTs!!!! When we did get pushed against Clemson, we struggled on 3rd downs and didn't bail out our tired defense. Jalen still put in a valiant effort on the final drive. He did get some help from A. Stewart on a long pass play too. '17 comes and once again, we have a dominant D. We dispose of people early. Tua comes in and shines in his limited snaps. Jalen protects the ball better and we cruise until we run into those better defenses like LSwho and the Barn. The Barn had enough of an offense to cause us problems and get us behind the 8 ball.

Is that line on the starting quarterback a real Vegas line or just something made up? If it's real, I wonder if the line has dropped dramatically for Tua and Hurts has gone into a plus number?
If you're talking about the line in the first post, that's Heisman odds.

There are prop bets out right now on who starts and Jalen is around +400. As I recall, Tua was -600 or -650. I saw it on an off-shore book, not Vegas.
