🏈 If Bama beats UGA can Uga still make the playoff? UCF? OKU or OU?

All about the $$$. These games don't mean much for most outside of the SEC but they are revenue collectors for the conferences and NCAA.

So, how hard would it be to take the first round of the playoffs and make it the same payoff as the CCG?

Hardly brain surgery.

I'm sure there are people in the background with their hands out that would not benefit from that, so I'm sure that's why.

There is no power 5 conference that's going belly up if all this foolishness with CCG was finally put to rest and we all got on with an 8 team playoff. What did we all do before 1992 and the SEC Network? Just fine, thank you.

I guess you didn't understand what I was saying. I was agreeing with you, but saying too many greased wheels to let those Conference Championship games go.

That's weird, I usually don't miss that kind of stuff. Keep your eye on the ball, that's my motto.

Ha ha, I rewinded that a couple times and even once more to show my wife. "Gonna be some ass had in Tuscaloosa tonight."

Until the SEC doesn't have a team that makes the playoffs and then you're looking at nothing.

How do you replace the 15 million + the conference gets each season from the SECCG?

Why does it need to be replaced? The SEC is filthy rich as it is and makes for a poor excuse to go begging for more to keep this game on life support.

Second: Didn't Alabama just finish as the only undefeated SEC team this year? By default, that should make us the champion. Now, let's move on from this monstrosity of mismatches this weekend promises in these CCGs and watch some playoff games that will make even more money, have more fan support, gives the higher ranked teams another home game vs elite teams and increases the entertainment value.

It's no different the the dot com boom—the cash train can't be sustained.

A more important question lies here. You're suggesting the conference change something that works. Why?

My question is do we think an extra game will create the revenue and not take away from the later playoff rounds? Money is hard to come by around the holidays, so multiple travel sites, all over the country, may be difficult for some.

Think about this for a second.

Let's assume it's expanded and we're seeing one of those three loss teams in the first round. Where's the entertainment value? Where are the viewers? Do you honestly think more will tune in to watch Bama vs say, Utah, than Bama vs UGA?

Seriously, Alabama vs Utah? Payback would be sweet.

These games this weekend have nothing to do with the playoffs. Fan attendance and TV ratings will quickly and distinctly bear witness to that gawdawful truth.

You put any team in a do or die playoff format and everything changes. Attendance, viewership, excitement, everything.

As long as they get the best 8 teams, regardless of conference, it's an entirely different game that overall record has absolutely nothing to do with.

You've already got on me once this afternoon. So which one of us are you speaking to?

I was asking anyone actually. Not getting on to you, just curious of anyone's opinion. I just wonder how far fans think they can expand the playoff without the revenue's taking a hit. Some folks want four, some others want six, some want eight, and some even want sixteen. Now send me another picture like before.

I hope @TerryP is still working on the software to get rid of the multi-quotes. There are five games being played by power 5 conferences this weekend. That's one more than 4 semi-final games in an 8 team playoff. If all of them are played on home fields and full of fans, how is that not an economic windfall? For those who can't travel, for whatever reason, there will be plenty of locals happy to fill the seats. How many fans are going to be disguised as empty seats this weekend in these CCGs?

I'll get on those pictures now.

You realize Bama fans, and a few Utes, would be the vast majority of viewers. It's not a marquee matchup.

Now, neither are some of the conference championship games because we're looking at a handful of three loss teams.

But yeah, it's those teams we want to see in an expanded playoff.

No, I don't. Any game involving Alabama has proven in TV land to be the big times and people tune in. You are mismanaging the playoff concept. This is not a regular season game and it's not a meaningless bowl game. When this thing turns into a one and done for all the marbles, this game and every team in the playoffs will be emotionally taken differently.

This is too much like the lazy argument we heard when the last time two SEC teams played for the national championship. Why would the nation be interested in those two? Ratings said they were full of it. When it means more, football fans are smarter than your giving them credit for. Those who won't show up to watch Alabama win another championship will show up to watch them get beat. And so it goes.
